    ASUS Introduces Z87 Motherboard Lineup

We published this last night and it doesn't look like anyone has posted about the news here yet. Check out the release lineup here. Here's a preview, lots more at the link:

I'm just curious what you guys think about the new design.

[XC] gomeler - I come to the news section to ban people, not read complaints.

    I heart gomeler!

i like the colors and the look.

of course can't determine the height of heatsinks but it seems like some coolers won't fit.

Pretty sure the actual heatsinks have changed very little relative to the current channel boards. They're just gold instead of blue now.

Damn, I'll be grabbing a Hero I think. That PCB is so damn clean, almost sparse! PCI-e spacing is marvelous as well

    That gold is horrid looking.

Will just have to wait and see, might upgrade and get that Gene. This W3520 is holding up really well for gaming, but a flight sim I play is pretty CPU dependent.

I might have to go for the Extreme. I really wish the rest of the RoG series had the voltage test points.

The GENE does, but not the HERO.

All I can say about anything else (which is really saying nothing about anything else, heh) is that for Z77, the Maximus V Extreme came out well after the Z77 launch. IIRC only the GENE was available at launch in the Maximus V series.

That is true, and the efficiency of that little guy kept it hanging around for awhile after the launch of everything else

Now that they release three Z87 ROG boards at once, I am worried if the Gene might end up being crippled either on purpose (to justify sales of M6H or M6E) or due to more expensive stuff having primary R&D resources thrown at it.

It didn't look crippled at all to me. Still looked just as solid as its predecessor. Granted, I didn't get to actually use it, but from appearances and feel, it's just as capable as the V.

If the GENE is half as good as the IV GENE-Z, it'll still be a fantastic board. Let's see if they maintain current quality levels or not

I'm a bit confused here. If the above board is Z87-Deluxe, what is this board then...

    Is this the Workstation?

If you look at this theard...

Aesthetically wise they are all IMO ugly. Sure the blue was getting stale but of all the colours available they choose gold and brown? I sure hope their X89 (or whatever it will be called) doesn't go w/ the same colours.

Any word on how pci-e slots are going to work? Bridge chip? Is the bottom slot a 2.0 slot off of the southbridge?

That would be a functionality question that we're all still under NDA for. Not that I actually know how it works yet (I don't), but I couldn't tell you if I did.
