According to CPU World staff, who, by appealing to an unnamed secondary source, managed to confirm the validity of an earlier leak, we are now looking at Intel's desktop roadmap for the following twelve months. The slides reveal the Q3 launch of Intel's Ivy Bridge-E chips, the Core i7-4820K, i7-4930K and i7-4960X comprising the lineup. The new Extreme chips will make use of the existing X79 platform. Also in Q3 the Premium line will receive a new product, the Core i7-4771, which we do not know in what way differs from the currently available Core i7-4770, but a judicious appeal to wild speculation could point out an upgraded IGP.

The mid segments will get a platform upgrade in the form of a new H81 chipset, and six new processors, the Core i3-4130, i3-4330, i3-4340, as well as three new Ivy Bridge based Pentium chips, the G3220, G3420 and G3430. Celeron processors are in the pipelines for Q1 2014, while Q2 will follow with the Haswell refresh and the accompanying new platform based on the Z97 and H97 chipsets.

It's most likely 4770K + 1 or 2 more speed bins.

X79 is more than good enough for IB-E.

Being an SSD/storage freak, I'm most interested in what the Z97 will bring to the table. I'm sure it'll be a while before that info is leaked.
I usually upgrade every other launch in step with Intel's 'tick-tock' launches but now with things flying by and performance being so similar between Sandy, Ivy and now Haswell...waiting for the refresh in Q2 '14 makes sense. Gives me more time to amass more ssds and related storage toys cuz I have a feeling that the Z97 is gonna be a bandwidth beast plus it may support sata express if we're really lucky.

Maybe it'll be a extra core, imagine a 4771k with 5 cores and 10 threads. that would be cool.

If I had to guess, the 4771 will be a bump up in clock speed, better IGP and maybe an addition to it's instruction set.

X79 for the next foreseeable future... that sucks for one reason... 2 native SATA3 ports on the chipset... if they could update that to have 6 like Z87 I would be as happy as can be.

Looks like Asus hasn't forgotten that the X79 has a ways to go...they just intro'd a $500 gem of a board.

I would rather if Intel released a new chipset for LGA 2011 because X79 kinda sucks, having only 2 native SATA 3.0 ports is a joke and don't get me started with third party USB 3.0 controllers... buggy and unreliable. Why is Intel not even catering for the high end platform but yet they constantly release new chipsets for the mainstream platform which doesn't make too much sense. Now if Intel released a 6 core CPU for 1150, I would have jumped ship already. And for NVIDIA cards that lack PCI 3.0 is a joke as well for X79.

I think I would agree with that. I have one question (to anyone that might know) regarding PCI-e 3.0 - Is it the SB-E CPU that is not allowing for it to be used on my R4F or other X79 Motherboards? You think it will work properly on my MB and other X79 MBs with a new IB-E CPU? Am I correct to assume that all X79 MBs have the hardware to handle PCI-e 3.0, but it was the CPU that was not allowing it to be enabled out of the box on Nvidia cards?

If that is the case, then that would be pretty good. That's about the only thing that I don't like on my current MB.
