    ~$1500 rig, need advice/go ahead

    Hey guys,

My friend asked me to build him a rig around $1500. It's going to be mainly used for gaming. Have been out of the game for a while and this is what i have come up with so far.

    CPU:
Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell 3.5GHz LGA 1150 84W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX80646I74770K

    Motherboard:
ASUS SABERTOOTH Z87 LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

    VGA:
EVGA SuperClocked w/ ACX Cooling 02G-P4-2774-KR GeForce GTX 770 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Video Card

    MEMORY:
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GXM

    PSU:
CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX850 (CMPSU-850AX) Full Modular

    HDD #1:
Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW180A3K5 2.5" 180GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

    HDD #2:
Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

    Total: $1600

I was just looking for advice if i should be changing anything, it seems good enough to me. The case/monitor/OS isn't something i need to include.

Only questions i have are, future-wise, will the PSU be able to handle a second GPU?
Also, have i missed out on any major parts? (Excluding case/monitor)

    -Ahmed
    Intel i7 2600K
    Asus P67 Saybertooth Rev 3.0
    2x eVGA GTX 680
    4x8gb corsair dominators
    Corsair 1000HX

If he's going to spend all that money, he'd have to want you to push the CPU multiplier somewhat higher than stock, so you'd better add some CPU cooling.
High-end air would do the job, but since this will be an OTT machine, something like a Corsair H100 would be in order, and would run quieter too.
You might even de-lid the CPU, so add just a few $ for some Coollaboratory Liquid Pro too.

Happy dreaming, shopping & building ...

I am putting a build together as well so have probably been reading a lot of the same things you have. One question I have is why the Sabertooth? Something particular about that MB?

As for the PSU, I'm thinking 1000ish wts. If you have the reasonable expectation he will want to add another card later. I am looking at these:

i would not get a sabertooth, that line has been overpriced since it adds looks. if you are going to spend that much on a MB wait for the ROG.

those intel sand force drives also suck, get a cricial, samsung, or corsair neutron.

Agreed, the Intel SSD isnt the greatest choice. Id suggest the Samsung 840 Pro.

A little bit out of your budget, but this will outperform your setup by a rather large degree.

PSU will be fine, even 750W PSU can handle GTX770's in SLI, infact if you choose PSU that is too powerfull you will loose efficiency on low loads when youre not gaming since PSU's generally are efficiency optimized for 20% and higer loads and when youre in desktop you will usually run way under that 20% load.

Also i would go to i7 4670K instead of i7 4770k, 4770k price is 100$ higer but usually very little or no performance increase in games.

In my gaming rig i saw only 220W increase of power comsumption from adding each gpu (GTX780's) in Battlefield 3.
System load with one GTX780 were around 470watts (cpu overclocked) so with two GPU's it is around 690watts in Battlefield 3.

I got i7 3930k, Asus Rampage IV Extreme and 3 x GTX780's and my 1200W Corsair AX1200i is more than enough, could add 4th gpu and then maybe i would be at around 1200W.
