    Arachnid; Inspired by the Beast

Now that I know that it works I thought you guys might like to see my latest cruncher.

This is the first time I have used a case for ages so don't laugh.

    I took one of these:

    A Lian Li PC 90B

    and one of these:

    Asus Z9pe d8 ws

    added some:

    and got one of these:

"Arachnid": The most powerful and quietest rig I ever owned.

While it is running for One.shot's badge hunt you can see how it does Here Cpu's are 2660+ es version @2.3/2.5

    Nice setup OC

Also, didn't you move recently? I hope everything went smooth and well for you and things are getting back to some sort of normal (I hate moving).

I hate moving too...and it had to happen before the end of HCC could not afford the time or money to fix things up like I had before.

Slowly getting back on track though ... a lot of work to do still.

Nothing wrong with that rig, OC. Sure, there are better looking rigs posted in the LC section here. But this isn't a show piece, it just has to work hard.

    Great work OC,

You had been wanting to build a rig like "Arachnid" for a long time.

You did an outstanding job putting it together. Well deserved kudos...

    Thanks guys

I am itching to put windows on it for a while just so I can use HWinfo and stuff like that and run a few benches just to see.... I want to stick the Kill-a-Watt on it most of all.

But the needs of my team mate are greater than mine so I will wait..... and by then I may have some daily crunching numbers to go with any other details that I can report.

You are right on that score Jean Guy, I have had the cpu's since before Christmas

    She's a beauty!

    Question though:

    Architecture: GenuineIntel 06/2d [Family 6 Model 45 Stepping 2]
    OS Details: Linux 3.5.0-31-generic
    Number of CPU's: 32
    Created: Thu, 30 May 13 17:47:03 -0400
    Timezone: GMT +1
Floating Point Speed: 2,263.89 million ops/sec
    Integer Speed: 8,492.81 million ops/sec

    vs

    Architecture: AuthenticAMD Six-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 2419 [Family 16 Model 8 Stepping 0]
    OS Details: Linux 3.8.0-23-generic
    Number of CPU's: 12
    Created: Sun, 02 Jun 13 15:30:03 -0400
    Timezone: GMT +3
Floating Point Speed: 1,358.74 million ops/sec
    Integer Speed: 8,464.25 million ops/sec
    (my 12c/12t 1,8ghz opteron http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?p...hostid=2380529)

is she supposed to bench that low? Or am i doing something (and by all means by accident) way too correctly? (my first selfbuilt/installed/maintained linux cruncher)

Sorely tempted to get another of these:- just without the bling.

My old 2600K when clocked at 4700 was doing around 11,400 and was well ahead of most similar cpu's at the time when running GFAM.

When I said that I wanted it to do as well as two overclocked 2600K's, I was not expecting it to match that particular rig even on GFAM

The good thing with s2011 is that it aint dead

So if You, down the road, think You need an upgrade, then some 12c/24t ESs should be available.

edit: Whats her power-usage? If You had time to test that, I understand shes been helping everyone with the badge runs

    Just a quick info update...

I found my Kill-a-Watt clone at last.... 16 cores 32 threads of DSFL just now running at 2.3 (but it could be 2.4 or 2.5 with turbo I have yet to find a linux version of cpu-z)

Hey Mumak, if you fancy a challenge, how about a basic HWInfo for Linux

Remember I am in UK so 240v and she is pulling 240watts or 255VA from the wall So, if you look at the stats since I have been running this project the average ppd is >22K ppd (I was hoping for 20K)... seems efficient to me.

This vina work seems good for a year of runtime and 250K Boinc every 11-12 days

There is room for better too: I should change out the graphics card for a small one whilst there are no gpu projects on wcg...but luckily this seasonic platinum is still >~92% efficient at these load levels (94% if you believe the meter ). http://www.plugloadsolutions.com/psu...00W_Report.pdf

The plan now is to build another but run it on air (and caseless). I may have to sell some things first like older graphics cards and cpu's etc but I think it will be worth it.

I just need another MB and some ram..... Oddly enough a 2nd pair of E5-26xx ES processors found their way to my door this past week.

atm i don't know any way to read current MHz out from a Linux box, it will always report stock clocks even when it's actually running faster. i'll let you know if i'll find a way

Can you imagine the cost of shipping

If that were not the case (ba dum) I would make you an offer...... say half of what you paid for it ?

    Here is another idea: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/CPUs-Proce...refLoc=2&rt=nc

Do your own search for local prices or add about 50% to the UK price for dollars

you can get max clock with

sudo dmidecode | grep -i "max speed"

    but taht's about it

sudo dmidecode is as close of cpu-z as you can get :P

install win7x64 onto any HD you have lying around, do the testing/benching - switch to linux for crunching

I have a dream - 4xOpteron 6166HE is in it. Will see about that soon....
