    Now Intel's Celeron and Pentium with Atom insides :(

    "Intel's upcoming Atom tablet chip code-named Bay Trail will be repurposed for use in the company's Celeron and Pentium chips for entry-level laptops, desktops and all-in-ones, Intel said on Friday. "

    This is bad very bad quad core Baytrail@ high freq instead of dual Haswell@ low freq.

    Until we see performance figures I don't think it's fair to judge. Silvermont should change perceptions of what an Atom product delivers.

    Look at Jaguar and maybe add Turbo and up to 2.5GHz clock and it should extrapolate performance pretty closely. What is interesting is how Intel graphics will compare between Silvermont and Haswell.
    This might be quite a big downgrade for Pentium and Celeron lines.

    What intel promises for BT Atom core @ 2.5+Ghz (Vs old one) Jaguar already does today with clocks up to 2Ghz(~1.9-2x ST performance advantage, 2.2x MT performance advantage,similar power). So IPC wise Jaguar will probably have the edge while BT will rely on very high clocks to get the advantage (where possible). I wonder what kind of performance the iGPU will have in these new Atoms.

    Tell me, how come leading cpu company can not make atoms faster even thought they have made them for so long. It baffles me how suddenly amd jaguars are the atoms, that atoms should be?

    The new atoms are OoO at least which should help with efficiency.

    because they think economically, atom was there to fill there excess 45nm capacity and for that it worked quite well. Remember the net top boom (before tablets took over) it was basically intel only market. AMD came to late for that and tablets later are basically larger smartphones.

    Also there main focus was power saving 2-2.5W per core for a 1.6ghz x86 core was nothing to sneeze at back in 2008. the problem was which what intel packed the cpu. And ancient chipset (to also keep there old fabs stocked) and that also included a laughable IGP.
    I mean comone pair a 2.5W cpu with a 22W chipset?

    @topic

    Tbh if it offers similar performance? I dont see a problem with that. Then again, this won't affect i3s at all, so im am sure well see haswell based i3s. Celerons books are usually sub 300€, Pentiums 300-400€ and i3s 400€. Its quite interesting to see what intel is up to here, since the sub 400$ market is dominated by tablets anyway.

    Intel might be wanting to get rid of tainted Atom name associated with low performance.
