Anyone remember how hot your northbridge got when OC'ing with 775 systems? Max vcore?

Been toying with my old socket 775 sytem and I've been able to get this E6750 up to 3.68 Ghz (fsb 460x8) with 1.5 vcore. Temps never go over 60C. However Prime freezes and I'll get a reboot. I give the fsb a 0.1 v boost in power as well. No other changes.

1. What's the highest vcore I can go on air?
2. Am I just hitting a wall with this cpu or do you think cooling the NB would help?

I have an old 92mm Vantec Tornado I might strap on to the NB attatched to an old Superflower Fanmaster controller.

I could never get my e6750 past 3.6. Mine has been running at 3.4 27/7 for years now, still works!

You might be hitting the limit for your chip BUT I do remember that I was able to squeeze out a little more overclock and Prime95 stability by attaching a small fan to the northbridge of my Gigabyte P35 DS3 back in the Conroe/Penryn days.

Gonna put a fan on the NB and see how that goes.

I do have the opportunity to get an X3380 for a decent price if I "accidentally" kill this chip lol

Wow, a Xeon X3380 is still $250 on eBay but is probably the best chip made for socket 775 with it's 9.5x multiplier, 12mb L2 cache and 4.0ghz 24/7 FSB OC on high end air.
Funny, the e6750 is only $20 by comparison.
The best socket 775 chip I still keep is an e8500 rock stable at 4.5ghz.
It was starting to show it's age when i3-540 Clarkdales could easily hit 4.6ghz with HT.
But then Sandy Bridge came along and anybody without any OC skill could get 4.5ghz on a quad with or without HT easy...

my dfi x38 LT and e6850 doing 1.6V NB with 1146mhz ram did about 70c and was not stable with air (on the rather large dfi lt cooler) so i had to liquid cool it and it stayed under 40c to keep stable.

I saw that a few days ago but do I really want to part with $250 when I can get 4 Ghz with a cheap $30 E8400?

Not at all, that would be stupid money to spend, especially when a i7-3770k is $229 at Microcenter.
Even the lowly i3-2100 is as powerful as a q9650.
The Penryn e8xxx series were my favorite before Sandy Bridge converted me to quad core.

Trying to get a 500 fsb but I don't think this mobo likes it. Maybe if I had an X48T or an EX38T. We'll see. Gonna play some more tonight.

uhh we need to specify what chipset we're talking about, wasnt P35 90nm & P45 60nm? massive difference in temps/voltage

as for temp readings, DFI was the only one that had a NB temp sensor right?

i've been debating if i should try OC'ing more since i'm hitting too many cpu limited situations these years

X38T which I believe is 90nm.
