need help repairing laptop (power switch) for son-in-law

ok, heres the issue.
my son in laws laptop switch was bad. i started looking it over to try to repair/replace it. once i got it open and started looking things over i noticed the piece that the switch plugs into the laptop portion was pretty damaged, as you can see in the pic below.
in the 2nd image, is an image of what the connection is supposed to look like.


as you can see on the image on the left, the piece i need to solder to, doesn't have anything to actually solder onto. it's bare board.
i've checked the backside of the board and there is nothing there that lines up with the top portion.
left (1st) image, right side.
2nd image, the first should look like that, minus the piece that the switch cable plugs into isn't there.

I need to figure out a way to run a switch, i have plenty of momentary switches i can swap out to use, but there is nothing on it to solder a new switch wire to.
as said, there is nothing on the back side of the board that matches or lines up.
i need some sort of idea or suggestion on how to go about getting this done so it can be functional.
any questions, please ask, any input is greatly appreciate.

oh yea... i posted in here because no one ever reads the area this might be best fit for..... hoping for a quick reply and possible fix.

so a new motherboard is out of the question? what model is it?

any better pictures of the type of switch so one of us can try to find it and understand what each lead does? With that damage, it looks like a lost cause unfortunately.

preferably no new mobo, so not really an option
what's pictured is what the switch from the on/off switch connects to on the mobo.

The problem I see is the entire solder pad is gone. Looks like someone has been in that laptop before since the board is all gouged up. Not really sure how to fix that...

Shine a strong light through there, you might find the missing solder pad is for mounting strength rather than an electrical contact. They do that sometimes.

The ones on the left and right are mounting pads, but the two at the top are the actual electrical contacts.

it looks like someone got hungry on that board. you might be able to drop a bead where the missing pads are, but this probably won't work out well. you'd be better off getting a board from ebay and replacing it. with that issue, i wouldn't be surprised if something else was messed up.

yeah, looks like what a 800watt soldering gun does to surface mount electronics. The only thing really left, would be to follow the trace to where it connects to and wire in an external button. likely it is just a momentary switch.

anyways, follow the trace on the pcb, verify it by just bridging the electical connection. if it starts... yay, then just solder in two wires and run them to a push button. Anchor the wire to the board in a safe location with some hot glue. It keeps the wire from ripping out the solder joint if it gets snagged or tugged.
