    Unwanted Cisco Bandwidth Throttling

Has anyone found a solution to their Cisco router (EA4500) throttling bandwidth to wifi devices?

On my phone I literally have to disconnect for 10 seconds and reconnect to get back up to full speed! I initially started using QoS to manage priority but ended up disabling the feature after it continued to throttle high priority devices.

    Any ideas? Please!!

Disabling QoS should help with the bandwith issue. QoS has been reported to decrease bandwith in several forums.

You try updating the firmware if you haven't already.

I've had friends with Cisco modems who have reported reduced bandwith. When they switched to other modems, mostly SurfBoards, their bandwith increased 2-3x.

I can't update the firmware any further unfortunately, the next firmware includes a rather lovely cloud based administration service where Cisco can literally access your browsing history. No thanks!

EDIT: Actually, it looks like they removed that from their policy now
the Connect Cloud service came with a supplemental privacy policy that explicitly allowed Cisco to peek at a user's "internet history," "traffic" and "other related information." If Cisco discovered you had used your router for ":banana::banana::banana:ographic or offensive purposes" or to violate "intellectual property rights," it reserved the right to shut down your cloud account and effectively cut you off from your router. Now, much as the world needs moral stalwarts, in this instance Cisco appears to have backed down and removed the offending paragraph

Unfortunately the firmware update didn't make the slightest difference (confirmed latest is installed). Running a bandwidth test shows initial speed at 30Meg and hours later at 500K then a disconnect.

So no one else is experiencing this with their Cisco router? I bought another Cisco router for a family member and they were quite frustrated with it, in their case all WiFi devices were disconnected and wouldn't reconnect until the router was rebooted.

Not having a good experience so far with this track record so was hoping others had experienced similar.

How old is it? It is getting excessively hot?
I'm not sure about that exact model, but some of the older, round, black ones (WRT54G2, E2000, Valet) would die after a year or so if you didn't prop them up or something. Usually they seem to just disconnect until you power cycle them, but I replaced one not too long ago that took 500ms to ping from across the room. If you get really high latency over wireless, I'd replace it.
IMO the last good Linksys NAT gateways were the WRT54G/S/L with the blue face.

I'm almost always available on Steam to chat. Same username.

It's pretty much brand spanking new and cost a small fortune. I only purchased this level of router to be able to stream HD quality media to my new TV but that was an error on my part for ever thinking that was possible over WiFi.

I'll try sending it back since this doesn't appear to be a common issue.

Oh and it's warm but not excessively hot to the touch.
