    Q6600 upgrade for video encoding

    Dear All,

I am using an old system to do my video encoding made up from my spare parts bin! Its a Q6600(OC to 3.0Ghz FSB set to 333, Asrock G41M-VS3 Mobo, Kingshare 4GB DDR3 1333, WD Blue 1TB and 9300GS Graphics Card with 256MB.

What would be the most cost effective way for an upgrade to help the system build my H264 1080 video files, my Hero3 camera will also do 1440 as well.

RAM is cheap $30 as this matches the stick already in the mother board.

But not sure if extra RAM would be the best money spent.

Maybe a budget Graphics card like a GT630 would be worth a $100

Just using MS Movie Maker as a do not need to do a great deal to the video files but slice them together.

    What would you do?

    I should RTFM

Looks like MS Movie Maker does not work with Hardware Acceleration for CUDA so the graphics card is no help and its just pure CPU crunching.

Are you sticking with the 775 socket or is a new motherboard possible? If so get something with sandy/ivy bridge or piledriver.
