i am looking at buying a mazda3 skyactiv, what do you guys think? it seems great but a little low on power, if i could find a ecu tuner that could get a bit more power and disable the egr it would be perfect.

The purpose of the skyactive is to get good milage, not to tune it. If you want a fast mazda 3 then get the mazdaspeed3, no brainer. will run circles around any other mazda, and plenty of other FWD cars.

i dont want a fast car, it just feels underpowered. it needs the 2.5 or next years is supposed to have a 1.6 turbo. i decided to wait on it so i can afford a new one and get the turbo one.
the speed 3 is using a 10+ year old engine, and gets poor mileage. i wanted a little more power (like 165 instead of 155) but to still have good fuel economy.

have you considered the mazda 6? its a much nicer car in every respect, does slightly less on gas (talkin like 1-2mpg) and is a little bigger. price diff isn't more than $800 that I have seen when looking used.
Current Status - Testing & Research
the last gen 6 is about 10mpg less than the 3 skyactiv on the highway in the real world. i have given up on the mazda and decided on a LGT (legacy turbo subaru.) they do only get 25-27 mpg but it should be fun and maintain resell value, and if it does not i can convert it to a track day car for only a couple grand.

honestly if you think it feels underpowered at 155hp, another 10 isn't gonna make enough of a difference for you to feel, prolly not even enough to show up on instrumented testing.
the other thing to consider is the the skyactiv is a significantly different engine than engine of the past. with how finely everthing is designed and tuned you may not be able to gain much, if any, power with a simple reflash. If you only want to buy this car if you can make some power out of it, wait till someone actually does it. And removing the EGR really isn't going to help you in anyway on a mildly modified engine, it really only gets in the way when you do serious modifications to the engine and are pushing a lot more power than stock
I would recommend anything from Mazda's new line.
Driving a 2014 CX-5 and it's perfect. The 3 and 6 are very nice as well.
