    Adapteva's $99 13GHz 16-core (26 gigaflops)

Adapteva shows off production Parallella mini 'supercomputer' boards

With its ambitious Parallella computing project funded on Kickstarter since last October, Adapteva's now showing off its first mass-production boards. These Rasberry Pi-esque devices are capable of supercomputer-like parallel computing performance thanks to power-sipping Epiphany multi-core accelerators. As proposed, both the $99 13GHz 16-core (26 gigaflops) and $199 45GHz 64-core accelerator (90 gigaflops) variants make an appearance in the pictures. The company is tweaking this initial batch of 10 to test various functionalities, with its current update noting that getting Linux to boot off the boards is the next step in testing. Final units are still slated to arrive on doorsteps during the summer, and hardware schematics will eventually be available as open source-info -- after all, the Parallella has always been pitched as an open undertaking. Those enthused by circuits and the boards they live on will find a path to more info at the source link.
Wonder if WCG would re-compile one of the Linux project to run on these......

Yeah. So it would be 64 cores running at 700mhz.

    Pretty Sweet though

A few questions that I would want answered before buying...

    - Can it run WCG?
    - Can it run Windows?
    - Can you water-cool it?
    - Can you overclock it?
    - Can you use DDR-3?
    - Can you plug SSD/SATA hard drives?
    - Can you have multi sockets?

I heard they were planning a 4096 cores version...

It seems they have scaled down what they planned... in August 2012, they planned their 64 cores chip to run at 800 mhz with a total performance of 102 GFlops.

More like dividing frequency. 64/45 = 1.4GHz per Core.

If you read the source the 45ghz number originated from them comparing their multi thread performance to that of a single core chip at 45ghz to make it sound impressive...ridiculous lol

    Got your math wrong

    It's 45/64 = 0.703125ghz

They did this to get to 45ghz
    64 (cores) * 0.703 = 44.992

You're right. I was just curious if anyone was actually paying attention.

I believe the epiphany core's they are using run at 700 Mhz so that would make sense.

Wish they would have just said 64 cores @ x Mhz though.

BOINC has a hard time running on Linux on Laptops much less a monster computer.

Definitely interested in getting my hands on one of these, would like it if they bumped the ram up to 4GB and had a USB 3.0 or eSATA port. Then you could run a pretty nifty little webserver/torrentbox/cruncher off it.
