Well i never really left, just never have time to post.
Long story short, both HDDs in my MJ-12 server died. What would be a good PCI-X RAID card to get? and are they all bootable?

Hey..... It has been a while.

Yes, it has been a while. Haven't stopped crawling tho, too addictive!
I'll see if i can find one of those locally.
If not, are they all bootable? Cause i've had one before that wasn't bootable, or maybe it was just that one?
It seems so. I found a reference that is quite old:

Hi buddy. Which type of backend ( is that programming)?

I originally was going to get a 1000M up/down fibre line, but it meant taking down half the house to pull the cable through, so that ended up being a no (for now).
Then i got a 100M up/down line and started crawling on that, but stupid f*cking apple airport extreme router could barely handle even 1 client (and not having some very basic features). So i got an old PC and tried pfsense, that worked but i get the feeling that each part was made by a different person, so some parts didn't quite make sense. So i installed untangled onto the old PC. I used a very old 4GB ATA laptop HDD, and with 2 crawlers running, HDD load was to high and causing all requests to be timed out, so i was getting success rate of about 10%. Pulled the old HDD out and put in a "newer" 80GB SATA drive, that solved the HDD problem, but now with 3 crawlers the CPU was the limiting factor and i was getting about 20+% success.
So out goes all that, and decided to install ESXi server on my Dell C1100 (which has 72GB RAM on it), i have the spiders, my router and my FreeNas all running off that 1 machine. Had to setup the virtual network properly and get the untangled instance to boot automatically so ESXi server could get an IP from it. Did a lot of ping tests inside and out the virtual network and noticed i would get random ping spikes and packet drops, so i changed all the cat5e cables to cat 6 shielded. Now everything seems to be running pretty well.
Just need to get a couple of Intel dual port PCI-E lan cards (9402?) and i'll have a DMZ up, and maybe setup my own DNS.
P.S. .. and i forgot to mention i setup openDNS somewhere along the way, i think after i got rid of pfsense.

long way hixie. I?d go with 1gbit if I could even if that meant cutting my house in 2. max we have here is 30 mbit ( capped)

The exact same words from Dave
I live in an apartment, a channel has to be dug into the concrete, PVC tubing has to be lay from the main door to my computer room. Scaffolding would have to be put up inside the house to hold the concrete in place for a couple days. Then painted over to cover the mess, before the fibre is pulled. Too much for now, but i'll do it when i renovate.
Signed up for another 100M up/down line, gotta find some way to load balance the 2 lines. Suggestions?
LOL
Gotcha my friend.
How about HAProxy to do the load balancing?

Seems interesting, i'll give it a try when i get my other line installed.
I do not know if If there would be a reason to load balance 2 connections if all they ll be doing is crawling.

What i want is one to be maxed out, and the other line have priority given to all the other "normal" machines. Then when everyone is out or asleep, MJ-12 can use up all of that line as well.
Haven't given HAproxy a try yet, still trying to max out 1 line (not going well). Just got a DNS server setup this morning, really hope we could get a heads up as to when buckets are running out so i can plan maintenance.
Thought I would pop in and say Hi alsoBeen down with garbage internet for so long but finally on fibre optic now.
