I called this bs pulled by AMD once again, while everybody was expecting $149 for the 4GB, i threw at $180 and it was just what AMD did, they leaked the price at $149 many times and in the end they messed it all up once again as always, its a shame, such nice card at a terrible price, i guess AMD launched the rx 470 to compete x rx 480.

RX 470 = too expensive , unless they are unlockable to a rx 480 .

Similar to RX 480 4GB cards that cost the same as a model with 8GB cause they were unlockable .

AMD seems to be competing with price points set by scarcity of their own product. It's like they don't plan to sell anymore 480s @ $199.

I really don't see why people are complaining. At $150 you are getting a card that is within 10% of the RX 480 but costs only 2/3rds as much.

It's terrific value. If you don't think it's fast enough, just buy 2 and have a combo that spanks a GTX 1070 for $100 less.

Its $179 not $150 like they promised and that makes a lot difference.

Your arguments about price are straw mans.

You claim the price retail cards are going for are $179, and say it's not actually a $150 card. How the third party market handles pricing is completely irrelevant. If you make that argument, you need to take into account how the GTX 1070 cannot be found at $379, nor how you cannot find a non-reference RX 480 for $200.

    QED.

AMD ships few chips to its partners and then all are sold out and they say its is in high demand, how ironic is that, nvidia the same. this should have been called pre release, at least nvidia have not changed the price of its card as AMD did, yes 1070 has msrp at $379 and soon it will get there cause that is what nvidia wants the price to be as for AMD, they promised rx 470 at $149 and they rose to $179.

Again, AMD had nothing to do with retail cost going up. You're wasting your breath on that one.

Then AMD should not have promised a $149 MSRP. Instead they gave us $179 MSRP. They don't set ACTUAL retail, but they do set MSRP.

Since 480s are not selling at the MSRP of $199, AMD has obviously chosen to raise the MSRP of the 470 instead of letting retailers sell the cards at a market-based markup and pocket the change.

The problem here is that once supplies of Polaris cards even out and retailers are no longer out of stock on most/all cards, the price will bottom out at MSRP until Polaris is rendered obsolete by the next generation of products. So instead of a stable price of $149 for the 470, we'll get a stable price of $179. And that kind of sucks, considering that the 480 will (eventually) stabilize at $199.

At that point, the 470 will be an awful buy.

At $199, the 4gb rx 480 with 150w is a better buy right now, power consumption looks to be very close, AMD promised the 4gb rx 470 at $149 with 110w, true story is, the rx 470 is $179 with 130 watts. 4gb rx 480 holds 20% performance x 4gb rx 470.

I don't understand the difficulty is grasping price-points and inventory. In the 'States AMD has 5 video cards between $160-$260, from the R9 380 to the R9 390, priced as to performance.

    It's not a difficult concept.
