    10+ years of XS Membership

Hey all. Just noticed I passed the 10 year mark as an XS member. So, I thought it'd be fun to look back at some of my old posts & get a flashback, per-se.

I just want to say HOLY FLYING CRAP! I was an absolute 'know-it-all', rude, at times total d-bag. I'm sorry to any and all I may have rubbed the wrong way and am just glad to be here. Hope all of you are well.

    Sincerely,

An older, wiser & more humble Hollywood

I think we ALL feel that way when looking through our histories

Well done on ten years I can't believe that I'm already past the seven year mark myself. What the hell happened to the last seven years?

Yeah. It's a funny thing how time flies like it does. When I started here I was running an Athlon XP 1800 with God knows what motherboard and MAYBE DDR mem. These days I'm not so much into overclocking as I am into total system and home network integration. I'm getting more and more interested in networking, HTPCs and the like. Not to say I don't appreciate a fast system though. Just entered the modern age with a new i5 3570k build and have to say I'm loving it.

Comparing today's hardware to that of 2003 is not quite what I would of expected in retrospect though. While the hardware is lightyears quicker, the mechanics and 'flow' of operating it hasn't changed too much. I really am glad it didn't change too drastically. However I'm fearful that the 'Apple' model has begun to take root: Closed software eco-sytems and limited user access. I feel that Microsoft is taking a bad turn with Windows 8 in driving people to it's 'App Store' and starting to limit functionality. If the rumors concerning intel's Broadwell end up true, that's a whole 'other problem.

I just hope that in another 10 years we'll still be able to build and trick out machines like we always have...

i think when i started on here i had some hp pavillion then somewhere along the line that went to get fixed since the store was paying for it and i started sourcing parts for my first custom build. pretty sure that was the dfi nf2 ultra b with a xp2200 iirc.

i got a couple custom systems now one at home and one i use in the garage for when i'm down there. also still got a few Dell's. one get's used for a htpc, got a sff hd6450 and a soundcard with optical out.

as far as windows 8 i'm probably not gonna switch to it. windows 7 will become my new XP.

Yeah. Actually I AM back. Just got out of it for a while. But, after sitting out a few years then coming back, it's fun. All this new gear is so much better than what we used to have.

That and I'm so rusty, I'm gonna need to lean on you guys for a bit until I'm back up to speed...

    Glad to see ya again.

Yeah. When I looked in a USB 3.0 connector, I was astonished to see the extra row of pins. Pretty soon, we'll be sitting in our rocking chairs lamenting about the days of computers we used to build while our grandkids GROW them...

Yeah. I fell for the David Clarks 'cause they scream 'joe-cool pilot.' However... Once I got some hours on them I was hating them. They're heavy. Gonna be looking into some litespeeds or a direct in-ear setup.

For flying a single or multi engine props (Piston or turbine no matter)you really need the combination of passive Noise Attenuation from the ear cup and I wouldn't buy a set without active noise attenuation also. I like the Bose X but their pricey and I seen good reveiws on other brands of ANR headsets...... Don't buy a head set for any "Joe Cool" factor, buy one thats comfterable and lets you hear well in the types of aircraft your flying.

One year to go for me, so I might still be a slight pain in the ass.

This cosmic dance of bursting decadence and withheld permissions, twists all our arms collectively, but if sweetness can win, and it can, then I'll still be here tomorrow to high-five you yesterday, my friend. Peace.

Not even close to the 10 year members, but hey, I'm young.

I've been around for about 5.5 years.

Christ, I must have registered when I was 15
