    x58 + ECC?

Question guys, I was wondering if anyone know does ECC memory work with ALL x58 setups? as long as the CPU supports it, since the IMC is in the chip itself.
my CPU is Xeon X5647 with memory speed only up to 1066MHz.
I found some ECC DDR3 for REALLY cheap vs. your standard DDR3
I was just hopping to see if anyone tried it before or not...
I know x58 is OLD, but still works really well for me

    Motherboard is P6X58D Premium

also, since my chip is normally 2.93GHz and I OC my to 4.2GHz for 24/7, does ECC memory OC at all? i've NEVER overclocked ECC before

it depends if the bios supports it, most asus, GB, and foxconn q-force support ECC non buffered. the ram will also not clock well with ECC enabled.

ECC is slower. It adds overhead in the chipset, as well as the memory interface since the parity bits must be transferred and updated.

I would not use it unless you require it.

Plus I don't think your board will use it because I think it must be wired to handle it.
