Wanting to get back in the game but I've been gone for 3 years and I haven't been keeping up with the overclocking community. Wondering what you guys think are the top 3 motherboards for overclocking the current generation ivy bridge cpus?

the maximus 5 formula and extreme seam to overclock the same, and the extreme has no audio card on it (the formula as an amp and card quality, the extreme is normal onboard.)

Agreed, but those extra nice features don't add to the "overclockability"
And based off the thread title, i figured the MVE is a better candidate.

Plus from personal experience, the Asus MVE is incredibly easy to overclock

Some features on some Asus graphics cards plug in to MVE too. Depends what kind of overclocking you will be doing.

MVG (matx) is great for cheaper and I found it easy too if you don't need the extra features of the bigger board (Eatx)

ASRock OC formula - consumes 0.06v lower vCore than any Asus ROG mobo due to strong VRM, great BIOS, awesome mem OCing, better pricing.
Asus Maximus V Extreme - nicest OC features ie VGA hotwire, OCKey, subzero sense, dual BIOS, T-Topology, 4-way SLI capable, great BIOS support

    ASUS Maximus V Extreme
    ASRock Z77 OC Formula
    Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H WiFi

All my boards are review samples, but that's how I'd rank them. Z77X-UP7 wasn't capable of running with my 2666C10 Dominator Platinums...was probably a bunk board, but that eliminates it from any ranking I'd consider. I does have one of the beefiest PCBs(10-layer) and the best onboard audio clarity(not talking about CODEC issues, talking about circuit design), and a great VRM. But it sucked for ram clocking. :p

ASUS Maximus V Extreme is now in my memory testing rig, and is built for multi-GPU clocking. The 3.3V rail for GPUs makes a huge difference, IMHO. ASRock Z77 OC Formula I am saving for a special build for myself for 24/7 OC.

Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread but I may hang out on IB until haswell.

Next best overclocking boards that aren't yellow or red?

I will only be on water. No extreme cooling with young ones in the house for me.

    Thanks.

the formula and extreme have the same bios options, same pwm, same ram power. the diffrence is that the formula has the nice audio, and is $100 cheaper: the extreme has thunderbolt, supports 4 graphics cards, has audio, and is $100 more.

I love my OC formula, my board is very happy to push chips and ram to the limits with ease.

IMO all three of these boards are fantastic in there own right and would make an excellent choice for high end clocking.
