    Upgrade it!!

You know that old skt 775 rig you didn't get rid of yet? Upgrade it!!

All you need is a 7950 and you are good

Sure, it will NOT produce as much as if you had a shiny new Ivy rig but it ain't that shabby:

Some more quick questions so we can actually compare how it does; are you running 12 thread and is it overclocked?

Whatever CPU that uses, it doesn't look too bad compared to my i5 2400 with 7950 at 1100MHz running 8 threads. I think on average my rig only generate ~60K WCG point more per day.

i get about 11,5min on average (tuntime over results) with a 7950@1000 and a 2600k. i think you should upgrade the cpu or swap a smaller gpu in there. i am sure you already know i was just really surprised that a slower cpu has that impact.

What is the product name & part # of that 7950 @ 1300? What video core voltage do you need to achieve this and what are your temps like?

What PPD would it produce on a 2600, 3770k or 3930?

    Thank you

And what software to adjust voltage? I have a 7970 at 1240 but, I get an invalid or two per day. If I go any higher, I get more. This is at stock voltage. Can't seem to get voltage adjustment to apply.

    Asus HD7950-DC2T-3GD5 http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/HD7950DC2T3GD5/

Not because it needs this voltage ..it runs smoother with more volts. Temps as seen are confirmed by gpu-z

    Was doing ~120K-130K Boinc on a 2600K @4.7 when running 1200

EDIT: By the way it won't run this fast running Heaven 4

    Thanks OC,

Do you have to unlock TtiXX to get access to VDDC? Do you get any screen flickering when it is operating with CCC?

No flickering. In fact I can watch a YouTube clip full screen and all that happens is the BOINC work slows down

No unlock....This was pointed out to me...I missed it completely...Look to the right of the GPU Clock, Mem Clock and Board Power digital readout, you will see a slider to scroll down to VDDC

I wonder if this is because it's an Asus card. I've been using Afterburner on an XFX card. I have a voltage slider, and I've changed it and applied....but it doesn't do anything. I guess I'll have to try trixx again.

Thanks for the response and info.

Edit: OH YESSSS. Voltage is sticking now. Bumped up the clocks and voltage. If only I could get sensor monitoring too. I don't care much for gpu-z's sensor "graphs". Thanks again for the help.

Thanks for the quick answer OC....

Do you have the "Overdirve" option activated in CCC while you are using Trixx to overclock core and volts?

    Thanks again OC,

Looking at the above picture, what is your actual video card fan speed? (100% or 50%)

If 100% fan speed, how is the noise level?

Unfortunately this wonder card (HD7950-DC2T-3GD5) is not presently readily available in North America. Amazon and tiger direct list them as out of stock. Quite a few HD7950-DC2-3GD5 the non OC model available but they may not carry the same BIOS or higher level bin selection for parts. Is anyone of you guys using the ASUS HD7950-DC2-3GD5 video card for crunching? If so, what are the max settings and PPD you have been able to achieve....

100% but not because it needs to be.

I would say the at 50% you would be more than happy to sit next to the rig..... sure you can hear it but it is not too bad, at 60% it is more noticeable, by 70% you want the rig under the desk not on it and over that you want to start thinking of putting it in another room instead of it being your daily rig. That said it is a lot quieter than say a 5870 and the tone of the dual fans is lower than the single solutions which in my book is a bonus.

Temps just now are 55? with the fan at 60%. I guess ambient is around 15?

    Thanks OC,

Trixx appears to OC in a different way than Afterburners. From the picture you posted, Trixx changes the top values in overdrive but does not change the bottom ones. When I overclock with afterburners (using unofficial unlock) it changed both top and bottom values. This may explain the screen flickering when OCing with afterburners.

    Have you disabled ULPS?

Edit: I once had issues where the card would revert to a low clock when used for vid clips etc. and would not jump back up again without intervention. With screen stutter check to see what GPU-Z says is your card clock.

Yes I have disabled ULPS (1 to 0) in all folders with the alterburners setup. The flickering I mentioned makes viewing video impossible and it is a bothersome nag when viewing internet pages. I also effected the required two changes to the afterburners config file. There are a lot of posts on the net regarding screen flickering when using the unofficial unlock method with afterburners. An alternative official method is available but it is only suited for one video card setup unless you go through an additional cumbersome rigging. You also need to re-do this official afterburners installation every time you update your video driver.

TriXX looks more simpler to use and appears to have a setting option (possibly default) that automatically disables ULPS. I have downloaded Trixx 4.6.0 and I will be installing it later today on one of the rigs after I remove all trace of afterburners and (re-enabled ULPS...??? TBD).

    Thanks for the tips...

On the subject of upgrading, the hard drive in my triple 7950 rig is dying, do you think an upgrade from a mechanical drive to a SSD will help with the throughput of workunits? Noticeably?

I noticed no difference when I went to my SSD. These HCC units aren't HD intensive.
