Where can I find a list of GPU PPD?

Hey guys, as per the title. I want to see which cards work out most efficient in terms of price/PPD here in South Africa, so where can I find a list of PPD each card does? I can then browse our classifieds forums until I find one that offers the best PPD for the price.

Or the 7770? I can get MSI Twin Frozr 6950 flashed to 6970 for R2,000 second hand or the Powercolor 7770 brand new for R1,400.

    XC,

Radeon 6XXX series card are not very efficient at crunching WCG WUs. I have a R6990 crunching 4 WUs per GPUs (8 concurrent) and it has a RAC of 46K BOINC credits or 325K WCG PPD. From what I read in our forum, a good OC 7770 will match or better this production. Recommend you get the R7770. If the are available and affordable in your market the best choice would be a 7950 or a 7870 video card.

The R69XX video cards are still OK for video or gaming. They are definitely power hungry and not efficient crunchers....

I have a machine with single HD 7770 GHz Edition, slightly OCed, running 4 WUs/GPU and it has RAC of ~35K.
    Check here:
    http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?p...hostid=2245119
    or here: http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/host/detail/70372264
I believe it's a good card for hcc/OpenCL tasks - low power usage and cheap too.

Note, that hcc WUs depend on CPU too and with a more powerful CPU that machine would produce a higher score.

In few days, I'll setup a new machine with HD 7950. So will see how that one performs soon...

Someone posted that the 7 series cards production is roughly linear with the price

so a 7770 with 640 cores does about 50K overclocked as I understand it (cost here is around ?100~)

If the statement is true then a 7870 with 1280 cores should do around 100K overclocked (not sure of that) and cost here is around ?200 maybe less

a 7950 with 1792 cores will only do around 130K overclocked (on my rig) and costs about ?250

a 7970 with 2048 cores .... not sure what that will do but here costs around ?340

There is a 7870 Tahiti based card with 1536 cores too. Not sure of the performance but costs around ?190 here.

If you can afford to, get a tahiti based card I would say ....but others have had good experiences with 7770.

Hopefully someone with more info can fill in the gaps here

Depends on what it is running in. running at 875 In my q6600 @3.3 I think I was getting >10K.

To put things in perspective a 7950 in a fast 3770K rig will do 130K at a push but in a q6600 rig I maybe get 80K

Need your system specs to give you a qualified answer. Something's not right. A 5850 should do 13-14k or more BOINC a day. Also need to know if you're running a single or multiple GPU tasks at the same time and if you're running CPU tasks.

My 5850 only does ~6-10k BOINC I think. GPU only runs for ~124 hours a week though (20+ hours weekday, ~12 hours weekend).

    configuration:
    i7 930 @ 3.8 GHz
7 CPU threads, 4 GPU threads

Is it normal for a GTX 580 to be REALLY bad, like worse than a 5850? My entire rig does about 20k BOINC PPD, including 24 threads at 3.2 GHz...

Are the PPDs you guys are talking about BOINC or WCG? If BOINC, holy hell

All PPDs were in BOINC points.
nVidia GPUs don't perform well with WCG/hcc tasks (they use OpenCL for both AMD and nV). That's most probably because of poor OpenCL implementation by nVidia.
nVidia cards are better utilized in CUDA projects (in GPUGrid for example you can get >=135K BOINC PPD with a mainstream nVidia card).

    XC,

BOINC gives you credits that are then put into points by whatever project(s) you may be running according to and agreed upon translation ratio. One BOINC credit equates to 7 WCG points. Most of the production figures you see in above posts are BOINC credits per day unless otherwise specified.

I know exactly how the points work, I'm just shocked that while I'm doing 18k BOINC PPD with two 6-core CPUs and a GTX 580 a single 7970 can do 100k BOINC PPD. I thought surely it must be WCG PPD, for a BOINC PPD of 14.5k

Yes, because GPUGrid is especially optimized for CUDA and they also give special bonuses for taking long tasks (>8h) and finishing in 24h. So the 400k PPD doesn't reflect pure performance.

oj. How about you post the prices or the range of prices where you live for the following cards then the guys can help you decide....

    7750
    7770
    7850
    7870
7870 (Tahiti LE) They should have called this a 7930

OC, I'm only looking at Powercolor as there's an etailer called WootWare that imports them directly (as opposed to getting them through the local distribution channels) and new Powercolor 7970s are going for about 15 % less than second hand 7970s from other manufacturers.

    I'll show you what I mean, US$1 = R8.80:

Finally I let it run all day at 6 GPU tasks at the same time with a Phenom X6 at 3.5 GHZ and I did about 14-15k BOINC PPD...

Thing is, the computer is basically unusable...too much lag.

    100k BOINC PPD.....I wish I could justify a 7970 lol

Yes it does sadly. I wish I knew of a way to switch between integrated and discrete graphics on the fly so I could always use my gpu for crunching (not that I have a integrated graphics anyway).

Got room for a second but smaller/older card to use for everything but gaming? If so you could just let the main card crunch.
