    3dMark Fire Strike Extreme Terrible Score

    Hey, my system is as follows:

    Core i5 2500k @ 4.5 ghz
    GTX 580 @ 950/2400
    12 GB 1600 7-8-7-24 RAM
    Gigabyte P67-UD5-B3

    and I get exceptionally poor performance in this benchmark. I'm running on the latest drivers (313.96) and score about 1266. From the best I can tell... I should be expecting probably like 2500 or there abouts.

    Does anyone know what could be wrong? As far as I can tell I only experience this poor performance in this benchmark and performance in everything else follows what I'd expect.

    The second graphics test seems to do exceptionally poorly which is where I think the problem lies. Most tests I've seen see a drop in fps from Graphics Test 1 to Graphics Test 2 but nothing compared to the drop I experience. I go from a Graphics Test 1 score of 12.82 fps to a Graphics Test 2 score of 2.49 fps.

    It's really grinding my gears that I can't figure out what the problem could be and I'd like to know what my system actually scores as the resources for FireStrike Extreme are extremely limited at the moment.

    PS. It's not temperatures as I'm watercooled and stay below 40 c on cpu and 45 c on gpu.

    EDIT: Forgot to mention that I get a typical score for the standard preset. I get 5049 on the normal and then the dramatic decrease in score to extreme.

    I've reviewed all the updates on windows 7 and I don't have an update with that ID. Was it part of a service pack?

    EDIT: Manually installed that update... no increase/decrease in score and then uninstalled the update with the same results. I don't think that update had anything to do with my problems unfortunately.

    disable desktop composition in compatability options. If that doesnt help then it might be a heat issue or you have something forced on in your control panel thats not helping.

    If your GTX580 has only 1536 MB of VRAM then that will be the reason.

    Firestrike extreme occasionally fills the frame buffer in Windows Vista and Windows 7 (even with desktop composition disabled) and slows the bench to a slide show.

    Running it in Windows 8 it was just under the limit, sitting on 1532 MB.

    My scores for stock GTX580 SLI with 3770K @ 4.5 GHz with driver 307.74 WHQL;

    Vista - 2714

    Windows 7 - 3198

    Windows 8 - 3783
    Intel 6700K @ 4.3 GHz
    Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 DDR3
    4x4GB Corsair DDR3-2800
    GTX980Ti MSI Lightning
    Samsung 950 Pro 512GB
    4 x Intel 80GB x25-m SSD's RAID0
    Enermax Revolution 85+ 1250W

    I'm not really sure what's up with the test. I've tried disabling desktop composition as you mentioned STEvil and I'm fairly sure it's not temperatures as it is only this test which has issues. During the other tests it gets up to about 42 c and then on Graphics Test 2 it only gets up to 35 c. I also completely reset the Nvidia control panel settings with no effect.

    @chinobino

    That's really unfortunate if true. I've had a couple tests/games that fill the memory buffer but I've never seen it slow to a crawl before. Monitoring the usage sees spikes up to about 1520 mb so that could very well be it. I do, however, run all my games/applications at 1440p anyway and haven't experienced any slowdown (apart from games like FC3 being too demanding to run at max) let alone anything of this magnitude.

    If anyone else has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated. If I do ever manage to resolve this I will make sure to update the thread with relevant information.

    well, it seems that i have the same problem here. same driver 313.96 and W7 installed on SSD

    3930k@4.5
    gtx580@stock
    16gb mem 9-9-9-24-1T 1600

    And normal firestrike gives me 4452 and extreme gives me whopping 629... This was without sli enabled as i try to save some $ with electricity bills

    Edit: Just run extreme with sli enabled, got 622 and afterburner show memory usage on gfx 1530mb...so its definetly running out of memory...
