Can someone help me figure out sharing on windows 7?

Ok - I've been at this for two hours... unable to sort it out. I have files on a Win7 ultimate PC I wanted to transfer onto my new Win7 Home PremiumPC.

I've got homegroups off, both PC's are on the same workgroup, I can see the folders as a network computer but I receive this error when I try open a folder:

"You do not have permission to access ..... please contact your network administrator...."

Please someone help this is driving me crazy. I have found tons of similar issues thru a google search yet I have yet to find a fix.... I am begging to think it would be easier for me to install a VM of windows XP on each machine and then transfer the files from there. I know I would have had the transfer done already. MS def took a step backwards here...

connect to the share that you are trying to pull files from as the file owner of the system on which the files are on.

Say the source machine is called Bob and the user on Bob who owns the files to be copied is Alice.
when connecting to the source the login name to access the share should be

    user: Bob/Alice

mental block.... the slash might be the other way.... I use Linux a lot and this still confuses me after many years.

Under the password box the domain should then read Bob and not the name of the machine you are connecting from/copying to.

With out a Domain controller or Active directory the source machine does not know or trust any users from any other machine whether they be in the same workgroup or not.

Quantum theory in a nutshell: It's so small we don't know where it is, it could be here, it could be there.

Just 'cos it's legal don't make it right.
