Just wanted to get some opinions on a Home Theater amp...

I have a Carver AV505 (5x80watt) that I really like the sound of!
It has a few problems, there's a relay going bad on it (clicks when I turn it on), the driver POT on one channel is scratchy and problematic.
A couple of the banana clips on the back are (almost) stripped out...

I can get it fixed/tuned up for ~$100, but there are a few options available.
Someone on Craigslist (local) has a Rotel RB-985 for sale for $275, and there's always the option of buying a NEW Emotiva UPA-500 for ~$400.

In the end I know it's all a matter of personal taste/preferences but I just wanted to get some opinions from the gurus...

The rest of the system contains the following parts:
HEAD: B&K Reference 50 S2
Speakers: Infinity mains and surrounds (5.1)

I know the Carver is getting old (but it aounds damn good to me), would it be worth spending the extra $$$ to upgrade rather than having it worked on?

Just wondering if the newer amps have anything to offer as far as sound quality...
