    Xtremely Cheap z77?

I'm teaching my g/f to OC & build computers & we're in need of a motherboard.

I usually buy high end, but we can't afford it for this build, so we need something cheap. I'm trying to get my hands on a 3770k & OC to 4.5ghz+ on air. I'm basically using recycled cards & stuff I have around the house. I am looking for something that does support SLI though.

    Any advice guys?

    Something cheap - Asrock motheboards.
Even P67 Extreme4 /6 or Z68 PRO3 GEN3 Gen 3 could do overclock on IB with IB bios.
    Z77 Extreme3 or Extreme4 or Z77 Performance around 120-130$ if you want Z77.
    With P67 PRO3 90$ motheboard i could take an i5 3570k to 4.5ghz 24/7 and a friend keeps a 2600K(good chip) at 4.8ghz 1.360v.
Just be careful old P67 motheboards to be B3 revision, B2 doesn' support IB bios.

If you could boogie on over from the bayou to Dallas or Houston and visit a Microcenter, you could pick up a 3770K for $229 and get a special price on Z77 mobos. The AsRock Extreme4(94.99 with processor purchase) and the ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155(79.99 with processor purchase) are probably the best and cheapest ones. Of course, you still need a good CPU heatsink......

You guys are gonna shake your heads, but I found an open box ASUS P8Z77-V PRO on newegg. I've done ok with those in the past. it was just about the same price as the extreme4. The other lower end options don't support SLI, like the Pro 3. Good board otherwise! I'm giving her my old gtx 570 SLI set up. That's why she needs the SLI option.

@ yojimbo197, I'm in Colorado now b/c of the job market. No more bayou for me sadly! I do miss it! I'm giving her my thermalright axp-140. Should be enough. I have a noctua 120mm hsf that's an option too, but the axp should help more with chipset cooling.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll be back if the open box is a dud.

there are microcenters in colorado, but unless you are buying the cpu i dont think that the MBs are priced low.

I actually bought a used 3770k off someone a day ago. I'm an hour+ out of Denver & don't have the time, unfortunately. Otherwise, that would have been the way to go. Thanks for bringing that up though. I'll probably raid the place when I do another build in a few years.
