I'm exited now, no idea how stable it is though but booting close to 5G at only 1.41V must be a good thing!

Lol, i guess i got a little carried away as it seemed i used an old version of CPU-Z that reporteed 220 ref clock instead of 200 but in reality it was just 200...bummer .
I was still able to run Cinebench at 4.8Ghz at a mere 1.42V wich looks hopefull imho.
edit: 1.42V is just 1.408 under load (CineBench 11.5) with LLC at high!

Welcome Back Zeus....
That looks like a decent chip!
If it helps you any, a couple things I've noticed (on my chips anyway) is that the IMC likes a little more
voltage than BD's did, nothing crazy, just ~.05-.075 more.
Also, Prime Blend is a b*tch to get stable, but if you can get 30mins worth you should be good for daily tasks, even WCG.
Glad to see you back Bud, guess I better start tuning up my CB11.5 skills...

Here's the obligatory 5G Cinebench 11.5 after i flashed the latest bios (1201):
Unfortunately it kept rebooting after that, have to find out what is wrong, CPU-NB voltage maybe?
Btw, this was done at 1.46V set in bios, CPU-Z seems to read out a lower value for Vcore .
Can anyone tell me how to get Hardware Monitor to display the core temps?

Welcome back to the playground, Zeus! Nice for me to see some familiar names after the ~3 year absense I just returned from
I got myself a 8320 to play around with, but so far only for gaming, not benching Spending time in the BIOS for the whole overclocking thing kinda reset the my fire within, so I am guessing rather sooner than later, I will be back to benching again, screwing my 24/7 install totally up
Piledriver is a nice toy though. I also use it to make a nice and compact, uploadable movie out of the 65 Gb madness Fraps produces, i.e. this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdIzS7UfxvU

Hi there fr3ak! Nice to see the return of some old faces.
The CPU isn't half as good as i thought, it is actually pretty bad. Tried to get it to run Prime stable but 4.5GHz already required 1.475V in bios with LLC set to Ultra High wich resulted at an insane 1.52V measured by DMM.
CPU-Z kept saying it was 1.47-1.48V under load. Pretty unreliable. I found that LLC at Ultra High bumps voltage .04V under load but setting High makes the volts droop somewhat. Didn't measure that but the droop is according the CPU-Z reading.
Tried to run Cinebench 11.5 at 5.2GHz, soon as the yellow squares appeared the system locked up. Strange how easy this system locks up, trying Prime at 4.8GHz always made the system lock up, no BSOD or something, just a hard lock up.
At first i though it was bios acting up but now that i have flashed to the latest one i still can't get decent clocks out of it. Maybe i am overlooking something?
CPU-NB and ram at 2400 seem totally happy, 2.4GHz CPU-NB required only 1.225V, there must be more in that.

As for core temp or 3rd party oc tools, I am also somewhat lost. All the good stuff from the past doesnt seem to be working. Core Temp says 17C idle while having 21C roomtemp
At least the ASRock OC-Utility can change all settings on the fly, which didnt work at all with the Biostar 990FXE I was using before (which runs fine with everything set to stock settings).
I pretty much just set some values and they have prooven to be stable enough to render movies with all cores. Here is what I am running right now, without having pushed towards any limits yet:

If I am very lucky, I might have the chance to swap it with a 8300 tomorrow (fingers crossed). Voltage behavior seems to be weird for me as well, but since I just moved, I didnt find my voltmeter yet to verify CPU-Z readings. 1.425V set in BIOS while having 1,360V at idle is an aweful big difference if you ask me..

Hey Zeus,
Try upping the IMC v's to the 1.25-1.275 range and see if it helps settle things down (especially with those high Mem clocks).
Based on my Thuban/BD experience I was really gentle with that voltage too, in the end they've all needed a little bump to run stable...
BTW: I've had three 83xx chips, and although they'll all ran my best mem @ max clocks (2200+ w/looser timings) I haven't been able to get any of them stable over 2.6 IMC, even with high voltages (>1.325)...
My Thubans had no problem doing 3Ghz+ IMC at reasonable v's. For stable clocks that seems impossible on Vishera with ambient cooling.

Dave,
After more testing i was able to get the IMC to run 2.6GHz stable with my ram at 2400 9-11-11-25. Voltage for this was 1.275V set in bios with LLC set to "Regular" . Now this may look like a little voltage but measured by DMM i measured a staggering 1.34-1.35V under load!
Same thing with Vdimm, 1.6V in bios resulted in 1.65V under load.
It's safe to say the board "somewhat" overvolts.
The voltage that seemed help stabilizing the CPU was VDDA, going from stock 2.50V to 2.55V made Prime hold out longer before it crapped out eventually. Max Prime frequency for my chip is only a very dissapointing 4.5GHz but it runs IBT at 4.7GHz though.
Cinebench 11.5 was even more dissapointing, 5.1GHz was on the brink. Not sure if this chip will even be able to break 9 points! How dissapointing. I saw Oese's chip that's from the same week clocking very well so my expectation for this chip were pretty high.
Turns out the chip is a dog. I don't seem to have luck with FX cpu's.

I haven't tested with a DMM, but I wouldn't doubt that my board overvolts too.
In fact, the remote ROG machine shows higher voltages on the IMC/VCore than what is shown in HWMonitor or bios.
As far as VDDA goes, isn't that adding voltage to the PWM PLL circuit? I've played with it before and didn't see any real improvement...
I've seen folks say it helped, but they were using boards without Digital VRM's so after brief testing I gave up on it. I trust you, so I'll have to revisit that setting.
I'm not sure what it is, but I've given up on Prime Blend...
In order to get it stable for over 30 minutes I have to lower clocks a lot!
For real world usage though I can run my clocks MUCH higher (2-300 Mhz) and still run WCG or Encode video without errors...
In the end, if the rig can do the things I need without failing I could care less about hours of Prime stability.
FWIW, I've had 2 8350's and one 8320, I know it's a small sample but both of the 8350's did much better than the 8320!
If it were me, I'd forget Prime and tune your chip a little more for daily stability.
If it still sucks, try another 8350, the price difference isn't much over the 8320 and it's probably worth it...

I'll probably never get above the 8GHz mark with the current generation cpus. The one that had potential (my first 8150) died on the first LN2 session without real overclocking.
Highest I've reached so far is 7.8 with the 8350 :/
Talking about water cooling, it's decent (running 5GHz 24/7), but first module is bad and Prime fails at 4.8GHz+ with rounding error, other modules run fine.
PS: Oh, welcome back Your 8150 was good.

Somewhat sad really. BTW whilst my chip is good in cinebench and maxwell render for example, also ok in Linx, prime is also very hard to get stable and so is guild wars 2 game, that is for all cores. I can run high turbos though, but now for daily use i settled at only 4.25 ghz. Did not try VDDA though, read about it few times maybe i should try that
My NB stops scaling well at 2500 (which is a problem because my 2400 ram divider (with Sabertooth 990FX board) does not work apparently and i need 2560 for running 2400 ram with 2133 divider).
Its weird some things run at 5.3 g but 24/7 clocks on reasonable voltages arent as good. Anyway, 4.25ghz at stock voltage no turbo satisfy me so far for daily use.
Did u test with water cooling? Or was still air? My tests were with water and these chips dont like high temps...
