    Nested RAID, 50

Hey guys, atm I use RAID5, 4*2TB on my server, but I sense that around summer I'll be low on capacity, my controller wont do more than 2TB drives, and I am limited to 8 drives, unless wanting to go for expanders, which I wont...

Thereby I thought 2x RAID5 and nest them into RAID50 - Its basicly same thing as RAID6, except its failover for 1/4 drives, not 2/8.... How is the performance of RAID50 compared to RAID6, I cant seem to find much detail on this online.

    Stick with RAID 5

What data are you wanting to save, RAID 5 is what I use on the servers at school and Backup is by Veritas Backup onto Tape 800GB cartridge.

RAID 5 can suffer from errors in the rebuild if some of the remaing disc's have a error that corrupts some of the data. Then the RAID can not be rebuilt, but this is a rare case.

At work cost is not an issue, if I need more disc space I just twist my bosses arm a bit. Email backup for legal reasons requires Veritas and Tape units.

Then use a NAS drive to backup your Data incase of system failure.
