    I would much rather see a the realtek nic replaced by a intel or broadcom nic and/or newer DRMOS stye mosfets instead of thunderbolt capability for revision 2.

    Gigabyte will have revisions 1.1,.....3.1 for some boards. You have to be careful when buying their boards as some of the revisions are more than cosmetic.

    Which Gigabyte, 890, 990 or all of them?

    The Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3 is the one I am most familiar. From version 1.1, it jumped to 3.1, and the socket changed to AM3+ (from AM3) and lost the ide ports. It you read the newegg reviews, some users ordered during the change, and were surprised to find the ide connector missing when they recieved version 3.1 instead.

    Often the changes are merely with the circuitry to improve overclocking, stability, etc, but these minor changes are often not on the site. For example GA-970-UD3 from 1.0 -> 2.0, had some minor circuitry changes to improve load line calibration.

    You need to be aware of these changes when purchasing, as a lot of sites will not list the version number with the model number, especially if they are selling old stock.

    Yesterday Asus has opened a site for SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0:
    http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD...woj&templete=2

    From short description the differences against rev.1 are:
    * New DIGI+ Power Control - All-New Digital Power Control for both CPU and DRAM
    * USB BIOS Flashback - Easy, Worry-free USB BIOS Flashback with Hardware-based Design
    * Remote GO! - One-stop PC Remote Control and Home Entertainment
    * Windows 8 Ready – Assured Compatibility
    * ErP Ready

    Changes in the specification:
    * ASMedia® PCIe SATA controller (instead of JMicron's in rev.1)
    * Additional ASMedia USB 3.0 controller w/ 2 ports
    * TB connector
    * Some add. ASUS features
    * 64 Mb Flash ROM

    Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z in action!

    The new Crosshair V Formula-Z and Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 are the 2012 upgrades to ROG and TUF’s premium AMD boards. With subtle improvements for AMD’s existing FX ‘Bulldozer’ and future ‘Piledriver’ architecture, there are feature revisions that both can and can’t be seen. One of these is an improved memory performance through higher attainable frequencies – even when using 4-DIMM – thanks to the same T-Topology that ASUS Z77 and ROG Maximus V boards already use, and DIGI+ VRM controlling the power regulation to the memory channels. To learn more about T-Topology, read our earlier article.

    Below we have listed the typical performance using a 4-DIMM G.Skill kit of 16GB 2,400MHz DDR3 (with an initial QVL listed below). We’ll follow up with more Crosshair V Formula-Z and Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 news in the coming days, so keep an eye on ROG front page, AMD fans!

    Looking forward to some Piledriver action with this board. It's already on sale here, but for 300 bucks, sheesh. I hope ASUS will allow us to purchase the updated CV without the thunderbolt card for a lower price. And AMD better not delay piledriver so we can get some engineering samples tested on this board.

    From the ROG forums - What Asus guy tells about the Sabertooth 990FX mobos:

    "If you ever want to run fast 4 DIMM or use Win8 features, then get the 2.0. 2.0s will also get the focus of BIOS work for future CPUs. 1.0s will be sold out very soon."

    There is one important thing with some of this new mobos, thats DTS Connect, sadly new sabertooth doesnt have it, thats why i bought the new 970EVO pro .I was thinking about going intel, but these new mobos made me stay .The new FX however im a bit underwhelmed atm :-/ .Maybe thats asus`s thing but CNQ doesnt work properly for me, in idle it gets to 3700(sic!) in load its like it should 3500, havent seen one bump to 4.0 .Im on 8320, ive changed powerplan to laptop and it started to working, however still not properly, in load it gets down to 2.9 for no reason, doesnt really turbo to 4.0 .Maybe a new bios will help.
    Getting back to the features, if RAJA had anything to do with this new DTS connect ,thank you!

    Looks like Asus is still investing in the AM3+ platform. Maybe they know something that we don't regarding its future longevity. I doubt they would have launched an R 2.0 version of the entire line if they thought that AM3+ is truly dead.
