Success / Failures with purchases or sales of PC components via XtremeSystems

Many new users are curious about the possibility of selling or purchasing parts thru XtremeSystems, but don't have 100 posts yet to see that section of the board. So maybe some more experience posters who have sold or purchased parts via this board could chime in with these common questions.

What has been your success rate with getting components as pictured in the photos?

Did your purchase perform as expected (no bad blocks, motherboard posts, no dead pixels in monitor, etc)

    How was the component packaged?

How did the payment process work?

Did the seller expect too much money for their used parts?

Thanks for the reply, this is exactly the type of information I was looking to find out. Glad to hear all your purchases went smoothly!! It seemed like I read some threads on here where people were not satisfied with the product quality. I can't remember the exact threads and it's not a common theme on here with purchases. Maybe the buyer & seller didn't discuss all the details 1st, which lead to the disappointment in the purchase.

To be honest, I had a couple poor transactions (items never received) many years ago when I wasn't an admin. But when I became a mod and took (and still take) care of FS, I believe the things have gotten much better, since we hardly receive a complaint nowadays.

    Now to answer your questions...

    - 100%, every item I received as described/pictured
    - yes, all my purchases did
    - good packaging (I think every seller here knows what to do)
    - 100% PayPal
    - no, if it is what I need/want, but it is too much to ask for, I try to negotiate in PM to get a better deal

FUGGER: eVGA SLI board, that I never got to use
    Dumo: Mobo for Yonah..
Freecableguy (not on XS anymore, banned I believe): T2700 - Or was it T2600? The topmodel at yonah release anyway...

All 3 went very smoothly, the package from Dumo got stopped in customs and took forever to get released, but that wasnt his fault, 100% success rate, used paypal all three times.

    SOLD:
    HD3870
Everything went smoothly. The buyer was within driving distance and payed on collection.

    BOUGHT:
4GB 2x2GB G-Skill Pi Black from a seller in the US
    Memory was a fair price.
    Item pictured exactly as delivered
Item delivery packaging sufficient, arrived undamaged.
I can't remember exactly but I think I payed by paypal.
Memory still works although not in use.

Unfortunately the seller marked the value of product on the packaging, which customs saw...
I had to pay duty on the package. That was the only downside.

I've bought and sold fiarly before. Items are usually decently packed. I've had a few bent pins (on daughterboards, mostly) but nothing I didn't expect.

Transactions were smooth and everything. No real problems overall. Aligning schedules could be a hassle but not too bad.

Thanks for all the feedback so far with your purchasing / selling results. It appears like the members do well at regulating themselves and have a trust among the members compared to a site such as ebay.

One can usually get a fair idea concerning the trustworthiness of a member by the quality and content of their posts. It's not an exact science though. The most enduring members here are enthusiasts and enthusiast do tend to take pride in their skills and their image as knowledgeable and honest people.

I've done several and only had one that I wasn't really happy with the outcome in the end. Partly my fault as I let him make me feel guilty about something that I had no control over and gave him a partial refund when I probably shouldn't have. He claimed he paid too much for the ram that I sold him because it was the "junk" stuff that didn't OC and told me that of course is why I never overclocked it. Well, no, I never overclocked it because it was never it an overclocked system to begin with. I just decided after that to never deal with him again. Oh well.

All the others have been just fine however.

I have made many sales & purchases here.

    All transactions completed using paypal.

    Zero problems. 100% success.

Sometimes the asking price is high, but you are free to make an offer or keep looking. Packaging varies, but I have always received items that are packed well enough to protect them.
Everything I purchased was used, but everything worked 100%. The worst that has happened to me is getting an item that needs a little cat hair cleaned off.

I buy & sell nearly all of my hardware here. I find that users have treated things properly, describe things accurately, items are working, and the discounts can be substantial. That can't be said of every list/auction site. I find alot less attitude too; that also can't be said of all list sites. The requirement of pictures is a big plus.

Not to say my experiences are universal here, but I have I feel gotten better than average deals compared with some other list/auction sites.

Purchased a few items, while i got items in the end there was a lack of motivation on the sellers part to get my item sent after he had received payment i'm talking at least a month or more my first experience was not a pleasant one. Member was well thought of so very hard to go on reputation alone.

Mind revealing whom the user was?

I feel a bit like being in same jam, today is 16 days ago it was supposed to have been shipped, it may very well have been shipped but I was notified that I would get shipping details straight away, these I am still missing, and user went from daily user of this forum (and another major forum) to not signing on much...
Furthermore the item that i have purchased is still listed in for sale section - it is not marked as sold yet...

If I have not heard anything by friday, I will ask if someone can give the person a phonecall and check up on matters, if he is ok, or whats going down... Sometimes unfortunate things happens to all of us, but, when having sold something and receiving money - one should still notify buyer if something is going down...

    EDIT 30-01-2013
Item arrived today, and looks good, have to give it a shot soon
Just the tracking details which I did never receive.

Sorry to hear about your current issue with your sale!

After reading these posts it's making me feel more comfortable selling / buying equipment on this board.

For whatever reason, I've kinda felt uncomfortable purchasing a expensive processor on ebay or craigslist. I did have luck selling a CPU on craiglist, but it's hard to get any value from what your selling after having to meet the person and agreeing on a price

    Communication is key.

If you can't have a decent and relatively timely conversation with the seller then move on. If the seller can't provide a pic of the item they are selling then move on.

Don't ever pay with Western Union or cash. Paypal or other credit card-type transfers offer the best protection in case of a scam.

I use ebay occasionally (to sell) but I find that most sellers have no idea what they are selling or how to test if working (or are selling junk).

My 2 cents: Sell/buy here and engage the seller in a conversation about their goods. Ask for pics and other specs.

I was kinda skeptical about purchasing on eBay....atleast here you can work with people who have more knowledge in computers and could give youj an idea of how the parts have been used.

With the cost of shipping going up these days, some parts may not even be worth trading or selling unless it was in a bulk purchase of numerous parts

I bought many things off of this website over the years from many different users. Always been pretty good and only had one transaction with DOA part but was refunded with no problems. I always....ALWAYS use Paypal. The users on this site are pretty good. Just wish to hell that the forum moderators in the for sale section would please get rid of the SOLD item threads.

DO the members mark the thread as SOLD, but the moderators let the thread linger or do the members say the item has been SOLD inside the thread??

OR are you reading about the part you would love to buy, but reach the bottom of thread and realized you just read about an item no longer available?

In other words, is this something a member could do to atleast make it more apparent to other members without having the thread deleted?

The Posts are not able the be edited (only by a admin) so updating via post is how it is done. This way works well and has been this way for longer than I can remember. If you see a post that has yet to be moved to the sold thread after a post saying it is sold > you could report and request a move.

I have sold and bought many things on the forum and I have never had an issue. I have been the seller of an ungodly amount of hardware to many countries. There is a sense of importance when doing things, to make sure the sale goes well. If I were to screw up that could impact the next time I want to sell something. I think many are stand up sellers and if you have a question about someone sales record ask around and check heatware.
