Any way to update 6470M drivers?

My laptop is a B43S and uses the switchable 6470M ATI/AMD card. What I want to do is edit the newer drivers for the 7400M to include the 6470M. Main reason being that only recently did ATI/AMD fix their drivers to work with the ASLR always-on through EMET, which is what I want.

The latest drivers from ASUS (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/...64_Z884070.zip) is very old, 03/28/2011, 8.840.7.0000. These do not work with ASLR forced system-wide.

Relevant portion of driver inf that works with my card is here:
    "AMD Radeon HD 6470M " = ati2mtag_Vancouver_PXAI, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6760&SUBSYS_1D221043

Using DriverMax and SlimDrivers, they pull down a much more recent driver but they're missing any references to Vancouver_PXAI. Instead they have VANCOUVER and VANCOUVERA, which they label as the 7400M. Google searches reveal that the 7400M is a re-badged 6470M and people with a 6470M (but not an ASUS) have a working card, just labeled as a 7400M in device manager.

I have tried forcing the 7400M and it only half works. The backlight won't turn on. I have tried restarting, switching from the Intel card to the AMD, none of it worked. The screen is still working though, because I can hold a flashlight up to it and see everything, but obviously that is not a real solution.

How can I combine them in some way, so that I can get the functioning backlight from the old drivers but have the updated system files and drivers of the new drivers? Is it possible to just copy/paste the portions of the older inf in to the newer one?

I have a 6470M on a Samsung RV515. I got updated drivers by installing the old drivers, then updating just the driver itself by pulling it out of the latest driver for desktop APUs. Works fine for me, not sure if it would help your issue though.

I'm willing to give it a try. Is this the APU set you used? http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...ndows_all.aspx

Looking in those inf's, they are missing my DEV and SUBSYS ID's. Which ones did you force and what are the ID's for your card?

No, I didn't use embedded - normal desktop APU drivers.
