    Thumbs down Computation Errors...

Yesterday my 7870 started throwing up computation errors running HCC ATI and I can't figure out why. I returned the clocked speeds back to stock to make sure that wasn't the culprit, but it still does it. Every task will just fail as soon as it starts. Anyone have a good GPU test program they could recommend?

I assume you've done a reboot? Sometimes things get discombobulated and confused and a reboot clears it right up (had this happen before on another project with the GPU and it drove me nuts until I restarted).

Not sure on a GPU test program... furmark would stress the crap out of it however, maybe that might be a place to start.

I read somewhere that they do a CPU check at the beginning of the unit to make sure the system has enough resources to feed the little hogs (the GPU that is). If you're running GPU and CPU together it can sometimes cause issues. Failing that reset the project.

The time the unit spends at 0.00, 49.707-50.00, 99.707% is CPU work. I doubt your gpu is the culprit there. I get them once in a while and no change to any Overclock (CPU,NB,gpu, ram) has seemed to change its occurance.

Well, I turned the computer off last night and left it off until morning (mostly so it would keeping downloading GPU work) and when I turned it back on new GPU WUs downloaded and started computing normally. Maybe it just needed a reboot like Sparky suggested. I don't know why I didn't think of trying that in the first place. Thanks for the replies.

    I have 2 Nvidia cards in my system. 1 - GTX 285 and 1 - GTX 680 (recently purcashed)

It seems like when processing with the GPU, every other GPU piece of work will have a computation error. When using the CPU processing, I hardly ever have the same amount of errors as with the GPU.

Maybe they are more common to have errors since it's a shorter amount of time to process? So they will except more error results as compared to a CPU work unit of 5-8 hours

Not sure. My 7950 almost never errors anything.

I've had a few (3 or 4 total) over the last week. I'm not convinced it is always on the client side, as in sometimes a particular WU may be corrupt???

Jumping multiple generations on NVidia is an issue I *think* with driver versions ... the older drivers (up to the early 6XX drivers) worked without errors on 2XX but with newer versions of the drivers I had the same exact problem with my 295 erroring out on every other WU. Same exact situation when I paired my 295 with my 480 ... every other WU processed on the 295 errored but the 480is rock solid. I just pulled the 295 out altogether and cranked the OC way up on the 480 to 1742 @1138 and it's all good.mv

Speaking of errors, now my DSFL WUs are erroring right away on that the system that just decided to start DL'ing again [after refusing for several days with no changes ] so I went for a reboot, didn't fix it, reset project. Also the GPU tasks didn't start either, they said they were running, but no progress. Not sure what happened back there
