It is just a CCC hardwareinfo SS, nothing fancy. Could be the OEM 8950.

The Wikipedia article at Comparison_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units seems very up-to-date on the Sea_Islands_.28HD_8xxx.29_series
The HD8870 looks particulary interesting - about the same grunt as the 7970 for $279. Projected release Q2 '13.

source is still from a rumor site, but basically the 8870 is a 7950 with alot lower power consumption, cheaper, smaller die, high clock speeds...etc.. if those specs r true

im expecting a never settle 2 game bundle soon... maybe pick up another 7950 for cheap! with alot of games!

The next generation GeForce and Radeon postponed to Q4 2013 - Sweclockers

Sources SweClockers state that both AMD and Nvidia decided to postpone the next generation of video cards. The new circuits can be "at best" pop up in the fourth quarter of 2013, ie in the period October-december. This could mean, for example, the Radeon HD 7970 has time to fill two years before a proper replacement can find on the market.

    Both? Ouch!
But not impossible since 20nm is supposed to be in a very sorry state, even compared to 28nm. I wouldn't expect 20nm products until Q3/Q4 2014

The first thing that comes into my mind: oh boy this is gonna be a loooooong year for rumormills working at fullspeed. Can't wait to look forward to it. Not

If we will be under 100 articles regarding next gen Nvidia or Radeon performance/specs/trolling/fishing/whatever, I will be positively surprised. Looks like Charlie will have a busy year and probably lucrative too charging for exclusive access.

close to 2 years without a new high end card from AMD just seems like it's a bit much... especially when they haven't had the performance crown since the GTX 690 came out. It just seems like to long of a period of time to go without a new GPU.

after new generation drivers amd doesn't have the urgency for releasing new cards and it makes sense for them to wait nvidia release. i have written something like this somewhere here but can't remember where.

Could be that with Apple taking whatever is left of 28nm at TSMC, it leaves little capacity for anyone else. Nvidia and AMD are backed into a corner and could not deal with the high demand of a new chip or atleast the type of revision they are planing with the gtx 78x series or HD 9xxx series with the scant wafers left over. They would rather sell mature products that they have old stock of or ones that atleast get high yields. In addition, this slows down the development cycle and allows both companies to have perhaps a 3 year cycle for an architecture for discrete. Although it sucks for the consumer, with the desktop market shrinking, it makes sense for both companies to get the most out of their R and D budget.

I think the ghz edition 7970, was supposed to be AMD's refresh akin to what they 4890 was. But it was forced out early because of the gtx 680. Similarly, Nvidia has been a about overclocking which leads me to believe they want to limit overclocked models and voltages to rehash the gtx 680 with slightly higher voltage and better clocks.

I think both companies want to stretch product cycles.

AMD just stated in their quarterly conference that they'll release new GPUs first half, I doubt they'd suddenly change that, especially when there's no good reason for such and AMD desperately needs new stuff out as soon as possible.

i am not so sure amd is really desperate for new stuff. nvidia is using the rumours very well and make everybody wait for new nvidia cards. so imo what amd needs is a higher performance card at the same time.

AMD can officially launch the HD7990 in order to pretend performance king card.

As discussed in B3D, next cards weren't supposed to be in 20nm anyway so they don't affect the development and production of next gen from AMD and nVidia. Also it's more likely to put 3rd 28nm generation ala 6xxx-series instead of delaying to even out releases and not seizing market opportunities when you can. Doesn't make sense in any way unless both have made grave mistakes in development.

That's patners initiative. I don't see HD 7990 on AMD site.

They do if you want to even the time between SI/Kepler v1 and Volcanic Islands/Maxwell@20nm. New GPU series cost money to develop, tape out etc. Question is if that makes sense if they could just continue to sell their old stuff instead. How much faster would the 3rd 28nm gen be compared to the 1st or 2nd? Each time 10%? That would be quite pathetic, and I doubt if that were profitable.

yes but i think amd is also involved in its development. like this or like that at the end what amd will give us as 7990 will be the same with better driver support.
