    Rero77 ,

Your choice looks good. For $20.00 USD more after rebate, if you can afford it, you could get this XFX 7870 video card http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=698...X&promoid=1209

Double the memory and likely a bit better performance.

    FYI,

Phew that looks like a real beauty. I'm still shopping around if anyone has any choices they'd like to put in. The max I'll spend on a video card is about $250. That's what the HD4850 cost me back in '08 It's lasted this long when I added a second one I got from a friend.

I'm a fan of the MSI Twin Frozr series. My 7950 Twin Frozr keeps tempe around 60C at 46% fan at 1050MHz core.

    I'd get a 7850 with 2GB or a 7870 if money allows

That Hawk is a mighty piece of hardware

I wonder with all the rebates right now if a new generation is coming out and these guys are going to drop in price more. Anyone got any scoop on this?

Some rumors have pointed toward late Q1 '13 or early Q2 '13, but I don't see it being that soon unless Nvidia comes out with something compelling. These HCC WUs aren't going to last forever!

I'd skip Sapphire if you plan on overclocking. I've heard they are not very user friendly compared to other brand such as Gigabyte and MSI which are much easier to OC. Plus, the Hawk come at 1100 MHz guaranteed out of the box, the Sapphire does not.

My Room is also the same temp as poorly ventilated server room. It's at least 80F in there, if not 85F. I like it warm.

Was it just my crappy search results or is that Asus card discontinued at the Egg?

    Just out of stock:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...3GD5&x=16&y=21

My understanding of the difference between the two is that the later one has more connections for screens and a smaller vent as a result

Card revisions are usually different connectors. Newer rev's stopped using mini DP connectors (thank god).

Also a note about the Asus. The directiicu coolers are amazing. However they cheap out on the midrange cards. For example my 7950 and GTX670 are both top notch. Shroud is made of metal and they cool exceptionally well and are quiet. On the other hand my Asus 7850 has plastic parts and is flimsy and the sapphire version cools better (while being smaller). So the Asus coolers are not always the best.

I think these prices are about to go lower. Too many rebates for them not to be EOL soon. The shelves were thin, not sure if they are going to keep stocking. about to hop on the Egg.

So I read the review on techpower up on the Sapphire and then the Asus one. I went back to Fry's and picked up the last Asus one. It seems the bad part with Sapphires is their choice of RAM manufacturer and it not being OC friendly. The Asus blows it away on real world performance too.

It's an open box and I had them open it back up and I checked it out before purchasing it. So $261 out the door. Time to do the rebate. I'm DLing the AMD CCC for it then I'm going to uninstall my current CCC, shut 'er down and install the new card. Phew this guy is a beauty. Maybe I'll post some pics

Ya, I noticed you guys are getting ready to buzz the tower. I've already put paper weights on everything over here! Oh and 99hawk is on his way to steamrolling all us together!

Its time for retro to get in da game now to go read all those GPU threads
