the FOV should be a constant horizontally, but i guess games are coded well anymore. you can normally change it though. you can also run a custom rez in 1:1 mapping for whatever you wanted. i see no reason to get a shorter monitor when they are the same price, and especially when they charge you extra for it.

Naturally you are going to use a wider fov with a display like this than you would a 16:9.
Because of the size of this display you're gaining something like 4 inches horizontally while only losing around an inch vertically when compared to a 27" 16:9 display. Having a smaller dot pitch would kind of such though. It really sounds like an interesting display to me. I like the idea of a wide aspect ratio like this. I really wish that they had kept the same aspect ratio but used 1440 pixels vertically.

dell has a 16:10 30" (same width) but they have not updated the price online for 2 years http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...s&sku=224-9949 , dell also sells only LG reference in their office line now so you can get the one in the post already http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...~ck=dellSearch . there was a 16:9 one as well but it is not listed anymore and just the 27" http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...~ck=dellSearch .

That 30" office monitor also costs twice what this 21:9 display does.
Due to the different aspect ratio this display is actually a little over an inch wider than a 30" 16:10.
I don't see the advantage in a 16:10 display for gaming or movies. This clearly is not an office display aimed at productivity.
