AMD FX "Vishera" reviews info (again, after mod mistake)

Is someone running the FX 8350 @5.0Ghz for 24/7 use . I can boot at 5.1Ghz with 1.54v. but any speed above 4.7Ghz with 1.47v. is unstable with my chip.
NB:
I need help/advice and am new to the Crosshair 5 UEFI BIOS.
Temp. is not a problem atm, watercooled setup. Thanks in advance

I've been using my FX 8350 for 24/7 folding and it has been stable @ 4.85GHz.

Take a few screenshots of the main overclocking section of you BIOS and I'm sure we can help you.

I think if someone has 4.7Ghz stable ,the added power and heat from going to 5Ghz is just not worth it. It's psychological think I guess, a nice round number. In reality 5Ghz is just 6% faster than 4.7Ghz .

But yeah,as SKYMTL said post your setting and maybe there is something more that can be tweaked.

Heres some ss's of my bios settings (the important ones) that should help get you started in the right direction...



Your memory/IMC may not be capable of those speeds. (adjust as needed)



I use offset mode for voltage, this allows the CnQ function to operate propely. Manual will lock the voltage (at least it did on older bios and the 81xx).



You may want to start with CnQ and SVM disabled until you get stability. APM and HPC should have these settings.



These Digi+ VRM settings are pretty important! This is what works best for me and should be safe with good VRM cooling (watch temps).

Hope this helps...
Keep in mind though, you may need to make some changes depending on your hardware and cooling solutions!
Also, you can make bios shots easy by having a flash drive (fat32) plugged in and hitting "F12" while in bios.
It will save the ss to the flash drive for you.

Oh yeah.... On my rig these settings result in a stable 4.857 CPU / 2480 IMC.

Tested 3 so far and they all do the same bus like Bulldozer. About 275MHz on air and 325MHz on LN2 - limited by board, I think.

You sure your not thinking about the APU's (they are touchy)?

I didn't notice any problems with the 83xx though.
I'm still tweaking, but I had it up to ~240 without any evident problems...

Maybe it's my board but anything above 204-207 pretty much kills stability. Sabertooth 990FX....

Has to be your board. I can not boot into Windows at 200x25 but I am IBT stable at combinations that give between 5ghz and 5.1ghz in every bus speed between 214 and 225. Above 226 seems to give me problems no matter what multi I use. Try lowering your NB, HT, and RAM multies to get those out of the way. You can tweak them later.



That seems like the best I can do 24/7 stable for CPU. Other buses need to be overclocked differently. Hoping I can get better memory scores with better NB clocks.

Shocker003: One glaring problem I see from your SS's is the CPU/NB (IMC) voltage...
It's WAY too high (1.356 ), my IMC with this chip tops out ~2500Mhz with 1.25v.
I've pushed mine all the way up to 1.3v, but all it did was add heat and the IMC still topped out ~ 2500.
Your 1.356 setting has to be adding a LOT of heat without much benefit.
Your chip may be a little different, but in general, the 83xx chips don't clock the IMC like the PHII chips did, and cranking voltage is only going to cause you problems.

Also, you should probably get into the habit of using "offset mode" rather than "manual" for voltage settings.
Once you find your best clocks, offset will allow CnQ to lower your voltages while manual will keep them locked.

SKYMTL: You got me questioning the HTRef clocks on the 83xx's, so I decided to do some testing tonight...
I know your a reviewer, and you obviously have skills, but my board doesn't have problems running high HTRef clocks.

I had a Sabertooth and it clocked just as well as the C5F, maybe you need a bios update?

Heres a fairly-stable Prime Blend (custom max mem) run @ 276 HtRef...



Dammit... It failed on one core after 15 minutes, but I'm still pretty sure I can get it stable with a little more work...
Reguardless, 276 for 15 minutes is a whole lot better than 206.

I'll shutup now, it's late and I've probably had a few too many beers...

no issues with refclock oc here either 8320 arrived today and its sweet.

got it running 4ghz base @ 1,25v 4,2/4,5ghz turbo @ 1,32v

nb does 2475 easy with only 1,175v with 2400 mhz ram cl10 @ 1,5v

i had lower power consumption with this then with 3,6 ghz base 4,2 ghz max turbo @ same v's 8120 in Linx and games :O

i think my cpu sweetspot is about above 4,8ghz. volt 1,424 idle. At stock within 0,01-0,2 volt upping at 4,5 cb stable.

I'm at 4.8 GHz. solid with the FX-8350 under P95 and OCCT with the FX-8350 on the Asrock Fatal1ty 990FX Professional. Core temps at ~55C stable for hours under 100% load. I've run 3DMark Vantage and PCMark 7 countless times and I am unable to crash this system so far.

I have been able to boot and run for awhile at 5.1 GHz. but it would require too much voltage to run at that level all the time and it may eventually crash with air-cooling.

So far Vishera is very impressive to say the least.

Thanks for the infos. I dropped the cpu/nb to 1.25v.
Am running my @4.8Ghz atm and it?s intelburn test stable, but my core 6 fails prime95 in less than 10 mins.
I can use some ideas as you have the same problem. Before i forget, i was too lazy to search for a flash drive while my phone could take the pix.
