If encoding is important to you (like it is for me ), the 83xx would be a decent upgrade...

Here's a SS of my best 81xx chip using x264 bench (OC'd to max stable):

I'm still working on max clocks for the 8350 (there may be a little more in it), but here's what I've gotten so far with this chip...
FWIW, These clocks Prime Blended for ~30 minutes without failure!:

Granted, 2.5 FPS while encoding isn't super impressive, but that can actually add up when crunching some HD video...

The other nice thing is that power consumption is ~90w lower even with the higher OC...

Long story short, the 81xx-83xx isn't as big as the jump from the PH1 (9950) to the PHII (965), but it's still a nice improvement!

Considering the price, and your usage, I'd say it's a worthy upgrade...
    AMD FX-8350 (1237 PGN) | Asus Crosshair V Formula (bios 1703) | G.Skill 2133 CL9 @ 2230 9-11-10 | Sapphire HD 6870 | Samsung 830 128Gb SSD / 2 WD 1Tb Black SATA3 storage | Corsair TX750 PSU
    Watercooled ST 120.3 & TC 120.1 / MCP35X XSPC Top / Apogee HD Block | WIN7 64 Bit HP | Corsair 800D Obsidian Case

First Computer: Commodore Vic 20 (circa 1981).

Impressive Dave. I'd like to see how high you can get 4 hours of P95

That whole 2.5 FPS is about 8% and 10-20% lower power consumption? Sounds like a winner to me.

You right Dave, I saw lower power after OC FX-8350 than with OC my FX-8150...

This pretty much sums up Vishera. Unsuitable for gaming, a mixed bag on business apps, and double the power because it's on a 32nm die (vs 22nm for IB) and has to be run at higher base clocks due to lower IPC.

It's sort of like the old NVIDIA FX5800 Ultra, a chip OCd out of the box to compete. I keep coming back to "Why the He!! didn't they shrink Thuban six core chips to 32nm and sell them at 4GHz when they saw what Bulldozer/Vishera is?!?!"

That chip would have used less power, and outperformed Vishera 95% of the time.

I doubt it would have clocked. Llano is pretty much thuban cores and those wont clock that good either.

Not entirely true, if Llano was based off of the stars core, that makes sense it don't clock. Also, trinity has PD cores and doesn't clock at all the same compared to vishera.

I went Intel this round and got a 2600K (for $199) with a P8Z77-V Pro mobo. I have to say I prefer AMDs' platform through and through. If I were to build a gaming rig today, it would be with this 8350. AMD has done an excellent job tuning this uArch.

Does Windows 8 Help Improve Bulldozer's Performance? - Tom's Hardware

Our testing shows that the FX-8150’s performance doesn't change much at all in the shift from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

Is someone running the FX 8350 @5.0Ghz for 24/7 use . I can boot at 5.1Ghz with 1.54v. but any speed above 4.7Ghz with 1.47v. is unstable with my chip.
    NB:
I need help/advice and am new to the Crosshair 5 UEFI BIOS.
Temp. is not a problem atm, watercooled setup. Thanks in advance

I would not mind more test as well. I am glad it's as fast or faster then thuban when overclocked. I sold my thuban's to play with the fx cpu's. Looking forward to upgrade again.

For the record my fx4100 @ 4.75 is fine for gaming just excited to try PD.

That review only compares Vishera to Bulldozer.

I don't think many people bought Bulldozers, so doesn't that limit the audience the review is useful for?
