7970s. Tried 4,5,6,7 WUs per GPU. Had stuck ones at each setting.

I still get periods of 0-60% between WUs even when running 6 at a time.
If they all or part go to the CPU part to finish you'll see lower GPU usage.

Weird, I only run GPU WU's in my 7970 rig with this setup:
GPU: HD7970(Ref. PCB not sure which brand as GPU-z only shows ATI) stock 925/1325MHz OC'ed to 1000/1325MHz on stock volts.
    CPU: 3770K OC'ed to 4,7GHz(Water cooled)
    Mobo: Asus Maximus V Gene
    Memory: 8GB G.Skill RipjawsZ 2133 CL 9
    SSD: 120GB OCZ Vertex3
    PSU: cheap 450W
running on Win7 ultimate with Boinc 7.0.28 and the AMD app_info.xml

Go to the sensors tab and click on the little GPU load drop down menu and select "show average reading". Let it run for several hours to get a good average reading.

I don't think it's possible to get >90% average on these high end AMD cards. I feed my 7870 with 8 threads of a 980x at 3.8GHz and it only averages 87% GPU load.
You run 8 GPU WU's on the 7870?

It looked to be working fine running 2 WU's. But it got stuck right after I checked it this morning. When I got home from work it was stuck on 2 WU's for 10 hours.

It worked fine a lot longer, but it isn't fixed yet after the registry change.

For anyone using firefox and having weird hanging/driver not responding errors, check this:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/935632

I just disabled it because I started having problems and it seemed to always be while I was browsing. I don't know if it's the solution, but it appears the hardware acceleration is not ready for prime time.

Check your reg setting. I had put my EaRecovery to 1 instead of 0 which is an easy mistake to do.

Yep, it's been working great for a few days now. These high end cards need alot of CPU threads going to keep them busy.

For sure! When I first fire it up I like to pause all the WU and then resume them 2 at a time in stages so the get spread out in their start and finish times.

    That's a good idea.

Vinas's multi client method takes care of that itself fairly nicely. I don't feel like setting up 8 seperate clients though. Think I will stick to app_info for this one lol

    EDIT:

Most of my threads tend to sync up after a while, even when I try to delay some of them.

fallwind: After 30mins I'm getting 70% average GPU load.

Great, nice to know. Is the PC still usable running 4? May have to try it out until I get my 2nd card and use up all 8 of my threads.

Thanks for the tip on staggering the WU to keep the GPU loaded at all times. Should help keep temps more stabalized.

Everytime I had a crash with my 7870 it was always when browsing or idle, never under load. Make me think an issue with 2D clocks/volts or even a DirectX issue. I'm cleaning out my drivers and going back to 12.3 as I've read it doesn't happen on that driver version. Who knows, but we'll see soon enough.

Here is the link to the actual microsoft article

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...(v=vs.85).aspx

Even says in there the code is complex and could cause compatibility issues with drivers. I am surprised this isn't a more widely known fix to the 1000's of people having issues with this.

Sounds about right. Leave it run for a few hours and the % may go up a bit. You can give it more threads if needed.

@bluestang: PC is perfectly useable for everyday stuff. I get the occasional stutter but nothing serious.

I'm pretty jealous of you all. I'm trying to sell my GTX 570 to get a 7950 to take advantage of the just announced game bundle and to get some crazy numbers on WCG. The 570 struggles on this app.
