    The Z77X-UP7 Club!!!

    My Preview:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d-and-UD9-Meet.

    Some Tips for OC Touch:
    1. Install ME Driver and OC Touch Driver(Driver is required b/c the location of the clock gen has changed from 2nd to 3rd gen cpu)
    2. You can enable EIST with Turbo to increase the multiplier OR
    3. You can open GTL and change the multiplier with EIST,C1E, C3/C6, and Turbo disabled like up or down 1x and then multiplier control will work properly with OC Touch.

    Special BIOS:
    Here

    My Steps for LN2 OC:
    1. Switch Dual BIOS Disable Switch to Disable the Dual BIOS feature
    2. Get temperature down to -60C
    3. Set 1.65v and 40x and 110mhz BCLK, max out all 3d power settings except switching frequency(leave on auto)
    4. Disable turbo and power saving
    5. boot into windows, open GTL, change multiplier up 1, and increase vcore and then can close GTL
    6. Use OC Touch to increase the multiplier to where you want.
    7. Use LN2 Switch to reduce multiplier and increase BCLK in small increments, then switch back to get higher frequency and validate.
    8. Then validate like this: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2540994

I have time around four days for touching it and i can say it nice one for overclocker, it very good for Spi efficiency but not enough more time to try it now already send back to GBT

Just got mine up and running last night with a brand new 3770K. Easily hit 5.2Ghz on water, but temps are getting pretty crazy.
A lot of work ahead to tweak, but even on all auto, the only issue i saw was too much Vcore at 5Ghz (1.61V!!).

Hey Sin. Any tips for us ambient overclockers?

    I have a tip, go sub-zero
Kidding, don't use auto unless you don't know what the setting does, and even then, you should google it. 1.6v will fry that chip in no time unless you are below -20c

I know! I just used auto to see what voltage it would apply. Thinking about delidding my 3770k, looks like soem folks are getting great results with the liquid metal tims.

How does this board go with different memory IC's? Eg: PSC,Samsung and BBSE?

PSC could be better, UP5 is a bit better with it, but a future BIOS might have improvements. For samsung the board does fine, but it requires a future BIOS release (Which exists, but they are still making more improvements). Hynix is good, and I am not sure about BBSE but it should be fine. The board likes 4 DIMMs too.

    Hi All,

I picked up a UP7 last weekend & have run into some problems & wondered if anyone can verify the board runs good for them & confirm/deny my observations. I hope this is just a BIOS issue rather than a duff board but its looking unlikely.

1: Board dont like my Samsungs! I have several LV2600 & LV2666 kits none of them can run prime95 torture custom 4096~4096fft with maximum memory about 7000 for more than a few minutes. I have been using the board all week with PSC trident 2000 CL9 @ 2400 9.11.9 1.65v & it runs fine & torture tests fine. LV2600 & 2666 kits have been Prime torture tested on my UD5H & test fine below 1.65v @ rated speed using both XMP & tight manual settings.

2: Like for like settings & hardware @ 5GHz DDR 2400 PSC / 2600 & 2800 Samsung my UP7 is about 2000 points off my UD5H 3DMARK01 score with the VGA in the black slot....... not that bothered about this but would like someone to confirm/deny.

To Samsung problem use BIOS F5f: http://downloads.hwbot.org/downloads...77/z77xup7.f5f It helped me with Samsungs on Corsair Dominator Platinum 2666C10 kit...3DMark 01 I didn't try yet

    Sorry didnt mention I have tested F3, F3OC, F4 & F5F

I have also changed PSU, Cooling 620/920/Air, CPU, Several sets of RAM, OS, Hard Drive both SSD & Platter type & Removed everything from board i.e VGA, DVD ROM, all power/reset wires etc. All the removed items test perfectly on UD5H.

Are you saying your board is running fine with Samsungs @ or above 2600? Could you try prime95 torture test using custom 4096/4096 with 6000+ RAM?

I also note my samsungs need 1.9v to even post @ 2800 on my UP7 where as they 3DMARK01 @ 1.65 2800 on my UD5H!!!!

UP7 has some problems with BIOS...yep, my Samsungs are running fine 2666 C10...didn't test more because I tried it with 3570K which has crappy IMC and it's max is only 2666 MHz...I am always testing stability with Prime95 but I think with different settings than yours...I am sorry I can't try it in next days because I am not at home

I think error will be in BIOS for sure...you can eventually use my thread on HWBot

Thanks for the reply & linkage Blue Storm..... so UP7 needs some BIOS work by the looks of it fair enough I can wait for that if thats all it is.

Can someone please confirm if Samsungs @ 2600/2666 are prime stable as above on UP7...... I need to work out if my board is goofed or its just the BIOS

Better damn well be the BIOS. You're not the only one, and it's not just Samsungs.

Honestly, it seems many boards now(not just Gigabyte) with Win8 updates to BIOS have issues with high performance ram...might just be the boards I got, but the problem isn't just on UP7...it's just the worst right now. :p I really wanted to use it, but gave up.

Well let's just hope the 2600+ stability is something that can be fixed with BIOS updates.

@ ZoLKoRn, How much VDIMM did you need with the GSkill 2666 CL11 to run 2800 in the above article?

I note you are using 1.675 @ 2666 for the 32M runs & was wondering if the Hynix CFR based stuff runs better than Samsungs on UP7........

    ##################

On the plus side for the UP7 it handles CPU overclocking real well requiring a little less vcore than my UD5H @ 4.5GHz & .05 v less @ 5GHz. Also @ DDR2400 its perfect, my LV2600's run prime @ 2400 1.5v just fine.

there is another BIOS coming with more memory tuning stuff done.

IDk about samsung stability above 2800mhz, I have the 16GB kit and it OCes higher with 4 DIMMs opposed to only 2, but that could be because of the XMP. But my best IMC chip can only do 2900 for a top clock, which it seems both that kit and my g.skill tridentx 16gb kit max out at for top clock.

Are you guys trying CAS12 for those prime95 runs????? If you are, wait for the next BIOS that comes out.

A new BIOS will come out which will help samsung more and PCS.

Also samsungs seem to like 1.8v and not much more, the tridentX like the voltage tho.

    Here is that BIOS:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?st532240qeslhwi
    BIOS F5G
    Helps CL12 compatibility
    Adds Read/Write Slew Rate setting

Here are the new settings and what seems to be the best for different types of modules:

So start with level 2 and then increase for different levels of stability and such for samsung and PCS, samsung will for instance give you instance 51 on level 1 if you go too higher over XMP multiplier, but change to level 2 and it will not 51 and it will boot.

Nope I didn't try CL12 because it's not needed with Corsair DP 2666C10 kit so problems aren't with only CL12 but also with other timings

New BIOS = Back in business

    LV2600 1 hour Prime torture stable slew 5 with below settings just 10,12,12 & tRFC 120 1.65v

    LV2600 @ 2800 In W7 64 Bit 1.66v slew 6 although 7 is better

    Happy days
