Not yet. I would prefer to hear it from more credible source than semiaccurate. But I guess we will know it soon from AMD. I would like to see if it's indeed fanless design. Also it is interesting to see how well 1 GHz Hondo fires against 1.8GHz Clovertrail (since GPU cannot accelerate everything, at least not Javascript yet).

amd likely has the edge on price vs the clovertrail

Intel said Clovertrail is going to get the same unit price as regular Atoms (may be even lover because it's one chip solution). I guess, the high win8 tablet prices are dictated by OS price (which MS asks for Win8) and will have hard time to complete with free Android. AMD cannot help here by lowering CPU/Chipset prices (which are already low).

    Nahhhh.

Atom is likely the highest margin chip (by percentage) that Intel sells, and OEM unit-cost for Windows ain't all that. Intel also has the added expense of PowerVR and licensing.

AMD has TSMC mature 40nm capacity

BrazoII should make a fine tablet on the Win8 OS -- already doing great on Win7, models complete with docking stations for less than $600.

While I'm happy the Clover cpu goes less than 2w, any x86 tablet is going to pull 5-10w with all components.

You hardly find any AMD-based netbooks cheaper then netbooks with N2600 on board (available for ~$200-220) which has the same integrated PowerVR IGP as Clovertail. SKU price should be around $42, may be less.

Ugly and heavy WINDPAD 110W with 3 hours of battery life...? I would not call it great.

    Why is that?

read all 3 things just posted.

android tablets already run video and web browsing and can idle. someone needs to show us other things these tablets do on win8 that android ones cannot, and then compare them.

try docking them onto a separate screen, throw in a mouse/keyboard, and see how well one can mimic the feel of a laptop. that is the point of getting an x86 based tablet.

And even still, some Android tablets can have image sent to a second screen via HDMI and you can bluetooth some keyboards/mice. Only thing you cant do is run Windows programs and games.

most android devices that use a second screen usually only have that option for video or pictures. only a handful actually let the second screen function as the devices screen. and yeah i would want them testing the MS Office suite, win zip, remote desktops, some software development apps, a few indie steam games, etc. just someone review these things as if they were reviewing any other laptop, and see how they stack up.

Hondo at 28/32 nm LP should be at or under 3W, now that would be really interesting. Sad that its still at 40nm but still somewhat impressive.

Both chips are not supported by major Linux distributions "out of the box". Some work needs to be done for both chips in order to optimize Linux kernels because of different system architectures (missing PCI bus for example).

    http://www.nordichardware.com/news/7...windows-8.html

During our conference with AMD we were disappointed over what they could not discuss. No matter questions by us or colleagues the company could not reveal what design wins it had, how many or if there were any hybrid solutions based on Hondo. AMD was then asked if the number of design wins are not exceptionally many and got the answer that that is a fair claim. At the same time the picture above indicates there will be at least one hybrid model with the new model.
We can't reveal which products will sport Hondo and the only thing we can say is that they are not that many. AMD did say we will see a couple of announcements from partners soon and Hondo based tablets will appear around the launch of Windows 8.
sounds like they only have like 2 design wins so far :-\

and they'll probably be bulky ugly designs :-\

though that comal hybrid prototype with keyboard looked pretty cool at CES

yah it would of been nice to have hondo on 32/28nm process but they went with the proven and risk free 40nm TSMC process.

that's smart and I can see why they did that.

can't wait for the quad core jaguar/GCN on 28nm that will be an interesting chip

Not bad. It really depends on how it performs the basics. Media playback and the standard office applications. If it does well in those I might buy one, not Fugitsu, but someone.
