Trinity parts came in today :)

Just got home from work and my parts were on the doorstep...
Looks like I'll be up kinda late tonight.

Here's a couple pics of the gear:

    The chip codes:

The HSF looks really wimpy (no heatpipes) and it has one of those screaming 60mm fans on it (similar to Llano)...
I assume AMD knows what they're doing, but it looks inadequate for a 100w chip IMHO. Good thing I'm not using it!

    Heres a pic:

Not sure how much I'll get done tonight, but I'll post some results from my retail sample in this thread as I go along.
This gear is for my HTPC but I'll push it a little before it goes to it's final resting place...

You guys are lucky, having first dibs on Trinity.

Because of where I live I can not get anything, no cpu, no motherboard....... it's torture.

I think I saw Sata result in Guru3d review. They were on par with the best i7 system IIRC.

undervolting these looks pretty good at stock

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...y,3315-10.html

not sure why they have the volts so high when u can decrease this much. maybe for stability on ranges of different binned chips, seem slike they could get away with lowering volts a little.

who knows maybe they have a lower power A10 in the works like for mobile

Well, that was exciting... Couldn't get WIN7 to install, thought it was the new hardware but after hours of trouble shooting it turns out my harddrive died.

    First impressions:
This is an entirely different beast than FX, gonna take some time to figure out what it likes!
Clocks float all over the place (guess it's to stay within TDP), disabling CPB in the CPU bios menu helped settle things down a little.
Temps are much more manageable on air with a good cooler than they are on FX. Max temp during testing was ~46c load (socket) @ 72f ambient.

This chip seem to top out ~4.5 with reasonable v's (<1.5), but will prime for 10 minutes (didn't test longer) @ 4.4 with only 1.425v.
The IMC (CNB) didn't mind running @ 2200 with stock voltage and 2133 mem, didn't try any higher, and showed a slight improvement in AIDA mem bench.

These are all just quick impressions, I need to get a better feel for it...

    Nice Dave!

Try 1086 MHz for igpu I think it needs 1.25v or so

Should get you ~p2000+ in 3dmark11

Also watch for throttling when stressing CPU make sure turbo is off in bios and u have a good air cooler.

Hopefully bios updates r on the way

Can you OC NB freq at all on these?

Wish my a10-4600m was unlocked :/

    OK... Another update.

I've been messing with this settup for a couple days now and I have to say it's a little difficult to work with.
I bought this combo to replace the 880g/PHII X3 720 in my HTPC and theres no doubt in my mind that this won't be a nice upgrade!

Overclocking this chip is a PITA though... I'm normally a guy who likes lots of buttons to push, and knobs to turn, but this combo takes things to a whole 'nother level...
Props to "TheStilt" for all his effort! He obviously has a much better handle on this chip than I do...

Whether it's the res clock mesh, or the iGPU (can't tell for sure), it's pretty difficult to work with.
If your a hard core tweaker, this may or may not be a bad thing...
There's some decent potential here if you have the patience to push that hard.

I bought this combo hoping to get a feel for what the 8350's have to offer, but it's frustrated me a little, so now I'm tuning for low power/performance.
It's not really doing that bad in that respect!

Huge props to Asus with the F2A85-M Pro!
I finally broke down and turned the APU/EPU switches on on the Mobo...
The OC they give aren't really all that impressive, but they're very stable, which is perfect (and easy) for my application!
Clocks float around, but stability is much better than what I could get by manually tweaking, and power consumption is darn good...

Even with the the hardware OC, I still managed to crank the Samsung 1600 CL11(32nm) memory up to 2133 without failures!

Here's a SS for TBone when I was pushing the iGPU (barely beat 2k!):

    And here's some SATA3 numbers for Alex-Ro.
These are from the main rig (FX/990FX), it's a different chipset and different drive, but it's the best I can do with my hardware... :

Here's the same bench form the A85 (lower CPU Clocks) with a Samsung 830:
    AMD FX-8350 (1237 PGN) | Asus Crosshair V Formula (bios 1703) | G.Skill 2133 CL9 @ 2230 9-11-10 | Sapphire HD 6870 | Samsung 830 128Gb SSD / 2 WD 1Tb Black SATA3 storage | Corsair TX750 PSU

What is the difference in power consumption when you overclocked the CPU?

Power consumption and temps are a huge improvement over the FX chips!

Even when I was pushing the chip up to 4.5Ghz prime, power draw was below 190w (system draw).
Socket temps never went over 46c using a Ziggy Thor's Hammer. Clocks topped out ~4.5 though using v's ~1.5.

Pushing the iGPU heats things up a little more. When I had it @ 1169 temps hit 48c (Furmark) but power draw remained under 200w.

Using the onboard OCing switches and balanced mode in windows idle draw is ~40w and load is ~130w (system).

I wonder how high the Athlon X4 740K unlocked version will clock. It has a 100W TDP spec and 3.4Ghz starting clock. Looking at present Llano based Athlon prices I'd guess it will cost around ~70$. If it clocks to similar (~4.4-4.5Ghz) range on air it might be a worthy replacement for my aging Phenom .

Hey Jay, long time no chat...

If your thinking about replacing a Llano system I'd say go for it!
The only Llano I have is an A6-3500 (tri-core) and this chip seems much more powerful (no compares, just impression).
What I can say for sure is that the power consumption and heat are pretty similar between the 2 systems even with the improved iGPU and cores...

If your looking to replace your Desktop 81xx system it won't be an upgrade, hold out for the 8350...

I really like this Asus F2A85-M Pro board! I'd highly recommend it!!!
I've had allot of fun playing with it and the bios is very good for a new board (lots of options too!).
I really bought this for my HTPC, and the other nice feature is the on-board APU/EPU switches.
They do a decent job of OCing and tuning for efficiency when your done playing and you just want a stable system...

Hey Alex, I'm not familiar with this bench (hope I have the right one).
The only version I could find was in German, you know how us Americans are...
If this isn't the version you wanted, send me a DL Link and I'll run it again!

The only thing it does is shut down a bunch of useless WIN7 services...

Here's the results from Tune-up's Turbo mode (same system/stock clocks):

I have no clue whether these are good compared to Intel.

If they suck, I'm sure radier will comment, even though it is an AMD thread...
But it is what it is...
