ASUS p8z77 V PRO Cannot get into BIOS with DEL Key on POST

Have a new p9z77 with bare bones set at the moment. After I connected the Samsung 830 ssd and DVD burner I cannot get into BIOS using DEL key on BOOT.

I need to Clear the Cmos to get into BIOS and this method will not fly.

I set POST to a 9 second delay, does not help.

I have BIOS version 1206 flashed into the board. Using win 7, just installed it today.

When I hit "DEL" I get the request to use SAFE MODE.

Rig is running Optimized defaults with DVD as boot 1 and the SSD as boot 2.

Been building rigs for 13 years or so, never had an issue like this.

I had a PS2 keyboard tried a USB and that was it, thanks a lot Mdzcpa, I appreciate it.

I like the board a lot so far, hate to give up on it.
