Intel IDF 2012 with OCing by our very own Charles Wirth - Fugger

This week saw yet another Intel IDF but this one seemed to be special. Intel IDF 2012 show cased many new products that will be coming out very soon and I believe that many of these will set the stage for what we all will be using in the furture. These include new tablet's, CPU's and PCIe SSD's which are ground breaking in performance.

Much of this as far as the CPU's go is nothing new to us really, from Sandy Bridge CPU's to Ivy Bridge have given us performance levels that are really incredable and now we will find the new line of Ivy showing up on tablets which is something that will change a lot in how people use there machines on a day to day basis. I believe this is a time where people will start looking at the new line up of tablets to replace laptops and even desktop based systems. But for us enthusiasts we will still be using our desktops but may very well have a new tablet also.

I saw new IGP's performaing at a very high level, even playing demading games like Skyrim with very good levels of detail and frame rates. In fact for me it was very impressive watching Skyrim being played without a hitch on a new mid range laptop using pure IGP.

The main event that I went to see was PCES003 - Techniques for Overclocking Intel Enthusiast Desktop and Mobile Platforms.

It was very interesting for me at least to see how Intel has invisioned OCing these platforms to be done using Intels tools. We had a run down of some of the basic terms that most of us know allready and a few demos. Being able to overclock a laptop's CPU's and IGP was pretty stright forward and the levels we could OC them was rather impressive.

Our very own Charles Wirth - Fugger was there to do a LN2 OCing demo of Ivy Bridge.
He did an outstanding job of explaining how we OC our setups, showing a different ways to improve performance and some tricks to enable even better performance. Then he went for an extreme cooling demo and jacked a 3770K CPU up to 6.7ghz in just minutes. Fugger had maybe 10-15 minutes to do his whole setup, install everything and go. Little prep time was made available so no real extreme insulation was used. Needless to say he managed to work very well with a room full of people all watching him.

    Nice job Charles !

So some pictures of the going ons in this class.

    Out side the class.

    The man at work

Some pictures of the setup that was taken by Lam Chi-Kui from Hong Kong.

Then of course the Dangerous Liquid Nitrogen Sign
Yes Fugger had to wear protective blue gloves while doing this. It was pretty funny when he ran out of pressure on the 20L dewar and he reaches over, disconnects the pressure top, grabs the dewar and pours LN2 into his thermo... Like A Boss !. Everyone went ohhhhhh, then the sounds of LN2 being poured behind his table sounded like Thunder ! LOL

I was very happy to be able to met Lam Chi-Kui from Hong Kong there. He was dying to get a chance to play around on Charles setup and went to to give a hand when Charles was done with his demo. Yes recieved the dreaded CB at the end racing twards the 7.0ghz mark and Lam came over to lend a hand.

Myself with Lam watching an OC Legend doing his magic on stage

This was actually before the event at lunch time. Charles was as cool as can be, not a sign of being nervous.

And finially some addition pictures of what IDF looked like.

One Does Not Simply Drive Into Mordor... err Pleasanton, CA to jump on BART to the City.
Traffic was a nightmare as usual getting into the Bay Area and trying to find a parking spot at BART was next to impossible. But taking BART into the city was well worth it as it only takes 45 minutes and I came out about a block away from the event.

    Thanks everyone, enjoy

I have that exact same ln2 withdraw device. You have to keep rocking it back and forth to build pressure. Eventually you get frustrated and just pick up the damn dewar and dump it in. Nice job Charles. Looks like you dudes had a great time.

i wish that i could have gone it looks like fun, we could have barted together as a live right out side of "mordor." i would argue that plesenton is the western gate off mordor though as out past livermore is hell.

    OMG yes Livermore !!!

I commuted from Stockton to Livermore for 10 years but it has gotten far worse as time went on. This picture was taken on the valley side of the Altamont Pass and was like this the whole way to Plesenton.

ahh I was told that we could go to intel.com/go/sessions to find it Sorry.
If anyone wants a copy of the pdf just send a PM to me.

Random small world...seeing the words PLeasanton and livermore in an XS thread..

Im from Pleasanton..Parents live on the outskirts of Pleasanton/Livermore border..kinda funny.

Why is Pleasanton 'mordor' ? Did I miss something? Its like a perfect little suburban bubble.
