    Windows 8 : How many physical cpu's?

I'am searching on the net how many physical cpu's max. windows 8 can use?

I only find old news ,where it is still not clear if it's 4 or 8 cpu's.
Maybe someone else know the real number off cpu's Windows 8 will recognize!

In Windows 7 it was 2 cpu's (not in all versions) for 4 cpu's we have to use Windows server OS.

Or is it the same thing for Windows 8 that you have to use Server OS version?

The only info I can find on Technet/MSDN is that Windows 8 now supports 640 logical processors vs Windows 7 was 256.

I did find a screenshot that suggests the max may be 8 (Windows 7 HP was 1 and Pro/Ultimate was 2)

i would assume that pro it supports 2 physical cpus and one numa node (64 logical cores), server should do 8 or 16 numa nodes.

    I found the blog : http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2...rocessors.aspx

    With one off the comments:
that server has a total of eight 10-core Xeon CPUs, with each core hyperthreaded for a total of 160 logical processors. An eight-socket motherboard

So,at the moment the latest news on logical cpu's in Windows 8 is at 27/10/2011

that seams odd that it would support more than 64 threads in the client OS as you needed a service to have the nodes talk to each other.

    Find something:

Windows 8 Pro supports a maximum of 2 physical CPUs and the standard version of Windows 8 just one. In total, up to 32 logical processors are supported in 32-bit versions of Windows 8, while up to 256 logical processors are supported in 64-bit versions.
