Wink Proper PCIE Alimentation @ Motherboards - FPS Boosted

even though this mod doesnt void warranties still mod at your own risk

and thats the point of these pcie mods.. no soldering to the motherboard no voiding warranties

stage 1 - molex evga power boost/12v booster

    stage 2 - sata 12v + 3.3v booster

    stage 3 pcie 4x 12v + 3.3v booster @ 4x/8x/16x extension

    5x +12v/12x gnd ~ 3x +3.3v/9x gnd adapted to sata

    stage 4 - boosted boosters

proper pcie 470uf low esr capacitance

for best results at sata best to use low esr 4v 1000uf cap on the 3.3v and 16v 470uf cap on the 12v

    cap specs: http://www.chemi-con.co.jp/e/catalog...c-e-111201.pdf

    other benefits beside boosted fps..

    stable vs unstable system
    lowered cpu temp
    boosted 12v rail
    boosted 3.3v rail
    boosted 5v rail
    boosted ethernet
    boosted storage
boosted usb - no more sluggish usb performance
boosted everything/anything connected to the motherboard

max usb read/write from start to finish

my system was in dire need of more pcie alimentation even at 3x corsair 1200i psus.. had to find a solution.. looking around the web i came across the forgotten evga power boost.. order a bunch in a heartbeat!

    http://www.evga.com/Products/moreinf...100-MB-PB01-BR

this morning soon after i received the boosters i found out just how badly the system was deprived of good pcie alimentation.. unstable vs stable and i got 20-40 fps increment in benchmarks

this mod is marvelous for all 4x (7x slots) 16x pcie motherboards

for other motherboards 1-2 boosters depending on vacant pcie slots

link to all pix in fullscreen:

    https://picasaweb.google.com/1100060...NrRzbG7ka3CyQE

gigabyte oc (backup system) featuring proper pcie alimentation

gigabyte ud9 (main system) instead of 2x molex it should have 4x sata to properly aliment 3-4x highend gpus

even 3x 1200i have a hard time.. all 3 rails under and drowning.. 3.3v is the worst

evga power boost in all 3x 8x pcie vacant slots.. the molex at the bottom replaced with a 4th power boost

the 3x power boost/3x molex adapted to 1x 6pin pcie

unfortunately the evga power boost fails to aliment the crucial 3.3v

and this is where this mod comes in.. boosted 12v + 3.3v

heres some data guys.. hooked up the bottom molex too and heres the difference it made.. i really wanted a before and after comparison between the 2x molex + power boosters but benchmarks kept crashing even @ default gpu clocks.. when and if i can get comparison done will post

    i7 990x @ 4.83ghz (210x23)
    3x 580gtx @ 975/2300

devil may cry 4 dx10 benchmark - top molex + 4x power boost

    s1 - 774.89
    s2 - 628.56
    s3 - 902.88
    s4 - 546.48

    devil may cry 4 dx10 benchmark - top+bottom molex + 4x power boost

    s1 - 795.45
    s2 - 658.96
    s3 - 880.53
    s4 - 561.85

for the life of me i cannot take screenshots of this benchmark anymore all i get is a black screenshot

the difference at avp dx11 benchmark is 4 fps

the difference at stalker cop benchmark is 28423 points vs 28753 points (high dx10) dont have 1920x1200

this is just additional power to the bottom molex alone on top of the 4x power boost

ive never seen 1300 1500+ fps (300-400 higher) @ devil may cry 4 before but thats the difference the 4x power boost make

I would think upping the pcie volts up a notch and the chipset as well would do the trick.
But ohwell, to each there own.
Cool product there that evga has none the less.

    CPU: AMD Phenom 1090T
    CPU Heatsink: NZXT Kraken X60

    PSU: Seasonic X-750
VGA: nVidia Grid VGX K2 (Only got 1 out of the 2 gpu's at the moment)
    Monitor: ASUS VG278HE & 3DVision2 Kit

lol i can only dream i could feed it 3600w

the problem is the mobo doesnt have enough proper alimentation to feed everything accordingly at max stable cpu+gpus+ram hence current drops hence all 3 rail voltages drown..

even on the 2x 1200ax psu a few times the 3.3v fell below 3.0v - i thought i was gonna lose it.. me mentally

early next week this botchery will come to an end!!!

was about to give up and mod the hell out of the rear 24pin atx and then i find this god sent savior

behold the perfect the proper the one the only the alpha the omega pcie 12v + 3.3v booster

ill use it in conjunction with the evga 12v booster.. the 12v + ground to pcie and the 3.3v + ground to sata.. the less stress on the peripherals the better

Wow! Seems to have quiet the significant difference there! That is the FPS difference just from the power being more stable? Thanks for the info!

Instead of using that PCIE riser card,
i would suggest looking into extension cables
when i did bitcoin mining i routed all the 12v power through the extension cable instead of using the card above.
this is what I'm talking about

just one so far.. 3.3v improved from 3.24 to 3.26 but just like 12v this system needs 3-4 boosters

this is to sata.. for pcie+sata im going to need an x4-x16 pcie extension which will sit more snugly into the slot.. x1 is too flimsy/loose

i got all 3 done.. against the video cards its very snugly and tight now.. 3.3v improved to 3.28 only mofo!! needs more ground to boost it further.. but ill take it.. ud9 was never this good under heavy oc.. and it will never drop to 3.0 again

heres how i pinned to 3.3v

    absolutely love the mod!

I haven't kept up with power supplies lately, but could you also not tear apart the power supply and adjust a potentiometer for upping the voltage, or would that put it too far north of tolerance under no load?

thanks.. sorry for the late reply.. have been enjoying my system have been playing darksiders 2 twice+ orcs must die 2 trice.. since these mods no more bsods no more resets no more crashes.. unstoppable

well upping the voltages from the psu does help to some extent but its feeding the system thru the very same lines same few lines.. 2x 12v 4x 3.3v thru the 24pin atx.. thats just not adequate for this system.. hence all the instability issues ive had since i got the ud9 in nov '10

this is not the first 3x psu powering the system have had 3x silverstone optima op1200 and all rails were adjustable.. great psus.. the reason they are not powering the system (after i got on liquid cooling) is they got noisy/very loud under load especially the one that would power the mobo

these mods not only increase the current/voltages but they add badly needed power lines to the mobo.. in other words all the juice the mobo/system needs at high oc high loads

comes very handy when 4th video card is used
