I wonder if adding some capacitors by hand would work, it would be an interesting follow up test. I personally do think that ORB is right on this one.

I can understand Intel trying to keep IB from competing with SB-E via thermal paste, but this? Why? Save $1 per a board, alienate a bunch of customers? Very questionable attitude. I guess Gigabye was hoping we would never find out.

    Wtf? Gigabyte cutting corners here.

I've never owned a GB board myself mainly because of the colors they use on their boards, now i have another reason not to do so.

I suggest he actually sets his words to the test, Capacitors are dirt cheap and you don't need special solder equipment for the 0805 Size.

    4.7uF 0805 X5R

Both are well within voltage space.

Read the article, only the top end gigabyte boards have all the caps. Artificial product diversification, plain and simple.

Anyway it OBR.. and yeah dont give much about his "opinions"

Also, why does he block out all the names of the other boards in some of the slides but not ASUS?...

And why would Gigabyte do that? It doesn't make sense.

    I did read the article.

But other manufacturers are not doing this.
Which brings up the question... Why should anyone buy Gigabyte now? That's right, thanks, but no thanks. They are not doing themselves a favour by skimping on components, it will just push consumers towards other brands.

There are other, more meaningful ways of product diversification, such as options for extreme overclocking, extra ports, controllers, different slot configurations, stuff that's above the spec. Going below the spec just to save a few pennies is definitely not cool.

I don't think he made these slides. Asus probably did. I guess they might show up from 'more official' sources soon.

    No proof, no story.

Test before and after on each board. Add caps, remove caps.

This is FUD. Biased FUD at that.

Honestly, there isn't much of a "read" there. For overclocking, there are so many more factors than just the capacitance behind the CPU. But then again, there is no doubt that Gigabyte seems to have cut some corners.

I have a Gigabyte G1 Sniper 3 Z77 board and I can confirm the pictures are right, there aren't 45 capacitators there.

I dont really see more then a claim? No tests to back it up??
I doubt there is really anything to it - aint going to scare me from using the products for sure.

However, I am looking much forward to reading Gigabyte response to this, anyone up for taking bets on how it goes down? I think it'll be posted by a 'none Gigabyte rep' after HQ wakes up...

Normally OBR posts would get deleted but as long as this remains civil I think it can be left open for a bit.

I just asked Gigabyte about this, you can do it here:
    http://ggts.gigabyte.com/nontech.asp?country=
I don't know if they'll answer, but maybe if more people asks we can get an official explanation.

Im ok photos reveal troubling thing... but before qualified a brand or board of good or bad overclockers ( as it dont attack 2 cheap motherboards, but gigabyte before saying thoses are low end models) i will go a bit further on tests .... Looking he have write some article about Gigabyte AMD radeon thoses last weeks ( not Nvidia ones ), i can ask me if he have not got a mail from them in between )

What does that mean ? Asus is the only boards who are good for overclocking ? This was part of Asus publicity no (sabertooth i believe ) ? Where OBR have do his own test ?

I dont say he's right or wrong, but dont peoples think we will need a bit more infos ? If gigabyte cut the price on cheap motherboard ( well thoses type of capacitors are so cheap, i dont see even why ) .. i will not advertise any one to buy a cheap gigabyte board..

On all the boards I tested (asus, msi, gigabyte), my CPU was always limited to 6700 MHz.

You guys can keep counting capacitors, I'll spend my time finding a better CPU
