    Cold Rookie needs a POT

    Hi Folks,

I've got an AMD FX-8120 that's just begging to go cold...
There's alot of good info in this forum on how to prep for it, my biggest problem is I'm not sure where to find a decent POT, or for that matter, which one I should look for...

TBH, I'd probably lean toward DICE in the beginning, but I'd want something that would do well with LN2 if I get carried away (not unlikely)...
Like any working slob, price is part of the equation, but I don't want to regret my purchase should that happen.

I know there are alot of skilled people here, could someone point me in the right direction?
Or maybe you've got an old pot that doesn't meet todays standards you'd be willing to sell cheap?
If it had AMD mounting hardware, that would be a plus, but I'm really getting the itch!

Hell, I was at Meijer today and they had a 48qt Rubbermaid cooler with a 3/8th inch drain plug for $40, I almost bought it just thinking of Ice Water!

If any of you guys could help me out it'd be greatly appriciated.
At the very least, just pointing me in the right direction would give you hero status in my book...

    Thanks,
    Dave

You'll probably find most people are using Kingpin pots - www.kingpincooling.com - highly regarded, highly recommended. i was in your possition a few months ago and ended up with the F1 Extreme Dark.
Other pots i primarily looked at were the De8auer pots - http://www.der8auer.de/
    and the SF3d pot - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...flection-Point

save your money, and get one of the listed cpu pots, anything from Vince is good to go, De8auer's pots look pretty awesome as well even though I have never tested them.

The Inflection pot is a fast reacting pot and does really well with Ivy, but the other option would be what K404 suggested, the OCN Marksmen even though it is gargantuan in size

i got the F1 Gemini from kingpin, and it really is awesome, comes with two bases, one fast(which isn't that fast) and one slow base. The fastest pot I owned was a koolance POT, which was great for binning CPUs because it was down to 0-190 in like seconds, however it is hard to control, but you will get better at pouring lol. The slower the reaction of the base(the bigger it is) the more LN2 it will eat from what I have seen and tested. Also if you get the kingpin, it comes with a lot of good stuff, the one thing you gotta look out for with all these POTs is shipping from oversees.

Do you already have a thermometer that can go down to -200C? if not i can recommend one with excellent speed, which will make a difference if you have a CPU with a CB>

Thanks for all the advice folks!

The Kingpin pot looks nice, didn't realize they were so expensive though...
I may just wait and look around for a used one.

    @Dave
If you want to come up here on Friday/Saturday I can teach you some stuff. House is cleaned out and ready for people, lol

If you plan on submitting to HWBOT in the future with your 8120 then I'll let you keep the scores we get, otherwise I would be delighted to submit the scores under my name (though HW sharing is super uber bad so in case you want to make a regular habit of benching someday, you can submit them)

Oh, and I'll get in touch with Aaron Schradin as well. He has some of his pots floating around in the public and I might be able to score you one.

    That would be awesome Sam!
I was gonna drive up north last weekend but I didn't hear back from you, and watching the LiveStream stuff it seemd it was more of an Intel bench session...
If you could find a used pot for ~$100 I'd go for it!

I noticed you hit 7.3+ with the 8150 in the other thread, but you were pushing ~2v...
    Did that chip survive...?

To get a good pot for $100, you'd be calling in a favour from someone for sure

If you buy a pot that's only WORTH $100, it might put you off benching.... I think some people don't quite get that. Sure, a piece of metal can be cheap, but it will completely change how an OC session feels and how much fun you get out of it.

You don't buy a pot, you INVEST in one

Read any of the reviews on the Reeven pot, it'll
Discourage you. You want one with a heavy part of copper.

Yeah, chip is fine. Has taken 1.92v in 3D benching at 7 GHz multiple times, valids I've tried up to 2.02v.
The Overclockers.com guys had the cameras on them most of the time, benching 3D on 3770Ks.

I still have 25L LN2 here and I can get filled on Friday...

The Koolance LN2 V2 pots are good and cheap. I mean, they kinda ripped off Aaron's designs... The V1s however are barely even useful for DICE.

I'm working on getting one of Aaron's pots from Slappa, though you can only keep it temporarily. (A few months maybe)

Dave PM me your address, pay shipping and you'll have a pot to play with.

I'll probably send you my KP Venom, Schradin pot is better on LN2, DICE doesn't matter nearly as much.
