That's the first time that I've seen Hynix BFR on 2x2GB kits. I'm not saying that they haven't been used, just the first time that I've seen it. Usually I've found them in the 4GB modules.

Might have to go pick up a kit or two just for grins.

    Thanks for the IC info!

Actually it's quite common, A-Data and Transcend have both done it and I'm sure you'll find more kits if you look for them.

Thanks for that info...based on what you know, which specific models were made using BFR?

A-Data Gaming Series v2.0 2000 9-11-9 ( AX3U2000GC2G9B-DG2 ) was 2Gb BFR, Transcend aXeRAM 2000 9-11-9 and 2400 10-12-11 can be 2Gb BFR or CFR ( TX2000KLU-4GK and TX2400KLU-4GK ) from what I've seen and of course the G.Skill kit OC Nub has posted above. These kits are nice if you want to play with the different ICs but for benching they're not the best choice.

They wont get you a 32m WR. If you want to run 1300-1333 at c10 or 11 for under 50.00 then they are a great value.

NewEgg is our of stock, but I actually found them at Sears online. They were a few dollars more, but I was suprised the selection of G.Skill and other brands they carried.

This is more of my interest...playing around with different ICs...you know that you've never seen me making any submissions to HWBot, have no intentions of starting now. Leave that stuff for you young bucks.

...and Don_Dan, thanks for that listing of 2x2GB BFR kits.

It doesn't, however, mean that I don't try to learn from them...this old dog still likes to learn some new tricks now and then.

Reefa, if I knew half your tricks, I'd know twice as much as I know now. Not that I'm a young buck, or anywhere near.

Anyway, good news of a sort - the sticks are very much memtest stable at the XMP 1.5vDIMM.

Didn't have time to do anything else over the weekend, twas spent swapping the main system over to a new case (shameless plug link). Hoping to get some testing done later this week.

Very kind words from you...but you've got them all wrong.

It's me trying to learn and keep up with you and the other guys.

    You're welcome!

I like those kits as well as I can't afford the expensive stuff anyway, but I thought it was important to mention it!

FYI, these are going to be headed to fellow editor Lvcoyote shortly. Things have gotten a bit too busy and something's gotta go. He's willing to review them, so that's where they're headed. He may not update the thread like I would, but I'll definitely post the review when he finishes it.

The review for these published today.

The Viper 3 system memory is positioned in Patriot's performance category offerings, and is available in speeds ranging from 1600 MHz to 2133 MHz. We will be reviewing the top dog in this category, the PV38G213C1K, 2133 MHz, 8 GB (2x4 GB) kit.
... Return to article to continue reading.

They didn't overclock too poorly, but they weren't stable enough to pass the R.S.T. Pro at stock voltage. Considering they're the only kit I've gotten that wouldn't...and Patriot was ok with that...Lvcoyote rightfully gave them a 'meh'.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I thought my finding worthy.

Purchased a few sets of this some months ago as an alternative to the Samsung greens as the spec 2133 C11 @ 1.5 looked good. I could not get them to run this spec on any board I tested however C12 ran great so that's where I left them. I had to order some more components a month or so ago & figured I would also replace all the Patriots with Samsung green just so everything was running the same stuff. Today I decided to pop a heat spreader off & have a look & I found Hynix CFR so I figured I'd give them a go in my UD5H. They aint going to set any records but I nearly fell off my seat when they booted 2800 1st go!!!

This is about as good as I can get them to run under 1.65v........... not bad for a super budget set of RAM ay?

To call this kit from Patriot wildly unpredictable would be a understatement. I'm thinking this kit is little more than a overclocked CL8 kit of some 1600MHz ICs. Forget about running this kit at any kind of respectable timings @ 2133, you might get them running with fairly good timings @ 1866 though.
I don't think they're that bad. I don't know about over there, but here in South Africa they're the cheapest way to get 2x 4 GB DDR3-1866 or above.

As your kits are a couple of months old, I wonder if Patriot still use CFR on their currently sold stuff.
Not too long ago there were lots of cheap 2133C9-rated CFR-based around but as G.Skill and Team recently jumped on the 4Gbit Hynix/Samsung bandwagon, cheap CFR became much harder to find.
I wouldn't exactly describe 45 GBP for these as a steal given that these fail specs and there is still Samsung OEM stuff floating, though.

Yes you have a point about the specs & maybe they use many different IC's in production.... who knows.

To be fair I'm not unhappy even @ C12 45 GBP for an 8GB kit using a HJ PCB & having a heat spreader that fits well & stays on IMO is cheep. OEM Sam's are more expensive now as well.
