Sony's new thermal conductive material expected to replace thermal grease

Sony Chemical & Information Device Corp demonstrated a prototype material with thermal conductivity that seems to outperform thermal grease. The product which comes in form of a sheet which is 0.3-2.0mm thick has a longer life and is said to have unprecedented thermal conductivity. Sony Chemical announced the new material will appear in server and high-end projectors applications.

how is it unprecedented if its equal to thermal grease?

and .3 to 2mm extremely thick.

    so they found indigo extreme?

this will be nice for OEMs since they can never get paste on correctly, and it should replace pads but i do not see paste getting replaced.

I can see the news flashes now:

This just in, Sony once again fudges its numbers. Thermal conductivity only equal to standard TIM in ideal circumstances, under normal use only 60% max efficiency.

Lol. Its something I would expect from Sony.

Read the article, but I was expecting it to be more like:

"Sony's PS3 got hacked again... Sony counterattacks with new metal compound capable of conducting heat".... no more hate was given that day.

    Interesting.

If it is as good as a high end paste, and can be reused. Now that would be something.

Indeed, OEMs are a huge market and most OEM PCs ive seen had either almost no paste or it was applied poorly.

And are there pictures of the applicaton of the normal TIM, plus what it actually was? Is there an application pressure test to show the mating quality of the heatsink and CPU IHS surfaces? How about where the fins of each heatsink are? What about he ASIC quality of each CPU, could one be higher leakage than the other? Are the motherboard VRM's each equal? Which carbon fiber sheet did they use, the .3mm thick one or the 3mm version? What thermistor and temperature calculation methods are they using?

Seriously flawed demonstration in all reality designed for propaganda and general media consumption only.

For system builders this is probably a fine material to use and should greatly reduce the poor TIM applications i'm sure we're all used to seeing from consumer PC's, but I dont see it being used by enthusiasts.

And in true $ony fashion you also need to spend three times more for the propriety $ony cooler that can only be used with said thermal pads
lots and lots of cores and lots and lots of tuners,HTPC's boards,cases,HDD's,vga's,DDR1&2&3 etc etc all powered by Corsair PSU's

I was thinking of the same thing.
    I almost got the indigo.
Instead I got the pk-1, doesn't seem any better then expired as cermic1 to be honest, could be my application of it though.
