Maybe true, but quickest is not always best. Have yet to test my audio, but I am sure it will be fine. If not I can always put my Xonar D2X back in

Quickest is not always best may be true, but having to wait 9 months more for the board to launch and then perhaps the same time for any needed driver updates was not workable for us. When a game does not work right, you try telling the hordes that it was "the better option" or that fastest is not always best :P

i can confirm for this board it will can running 16x + 16x for 1st and 3rd slot

btw. I think that actually it is not necessary for 16x + 16x because however CPU will have max bandwidth for Graphic pci-express only 16 lane
but if looking to X79 mobo it have more choice for you because CPU have bandwidth for GFX 32 lane
    Like I said,
I don't want to put card into slot 1 (which I can do on all mobos) because I will have not enough space to make connection ram -> gpu 1.
It's all about tube routing for my liquid cooling build...

And according to article comparing x8 vs x16 it's just few percents/few fps on single card but I still want them, it can be more in SLI.

dose it really take them almost a year for a driver from c-media. that would explain why they were supposed to have tapped out a new chip for native pci-e months ago, but it is not out yet in anything. what about via are they still viable for sound or are they just making integrated systems for atms again.

what audio chip is in the thunderfx external box?

running fake 16x16 dose not offer more than native 8x8, the only time it shows that is running a higher end board with tighter defaults over a loose cheap board or back in the day when the g80 would not work on an 8x buss. and for 1 card there is the blackish slot that comes from the chipset. or you could go with the 2nd and bottom slot on the plx and have it be useful and split the bandwidth so the gpu stays at about 16x all day. the formula looks like it has more space with the ram so maybe go with that? it also has 1x slots.

    Hi Raja,

I was only really teasing you - but it is always a compromise between getting to market in reasonable time to satisfy - or taking too long in
an effort to get everything spot on. In some ways this is the problem with our ultra competitive world we have today. We are always treading that fine line.

Keep up the good work Raja - it is appreciated - at least by me anyway. Lol.

No other solution was viable for onboard - none of them had the packages we needed ready on time for the motherboard chipsets we could use (they quoted us 9 months+). We even tried Wolfson, I have an early MVF sample board here with the chipset and it did not work out, unfortunately. That just goes to showhow hard we tried.

For ThunderFX we got C-Media as we'd already put the work in on the Phoebus. Had C-Media of been able to deliver what we needed for the onboard we would have used them there, too.

i cannot wait to get my board and try the onboard, i really like that there is spdif in and a headphone amp, that was getting me thinking that i should not need a sound card (and since there are no pci i am looking forward to retiring my sba2 plat pro, it lasted 10 years but the drivers just did not work well with the mic in 64bit.)

Loving this Extreme board, G.Skill RipjawsZ F3-1700CL9 4x4gb at 2800mhz 1.75vdimm. 0020 bios is working well, much easier getting back into bios using delete key.

A quick question for you Raja: Will the 11.2 Intel RST driver allow for TRIM passthrough with RAID0 on this board? If not it will be a dealbreaker for me.
If I'm a danger to myself just think what I could do to you.

From what I have been reading it will. The new RST drivers was only for the Z77 chipset until 24 hours ago when it was announced that they will be made available for the x79. Unless someone else knows any different.

Also I recently upgraded to the new 704 bios and now my 2700 is no longer stable past 4.8ghz, where as on the 604 bios it was stable at 5.0ghz. Anyone else having this issue? Needless to say im now back on the 604 @ 5.0ghz

mike, you need to install 'rog connect plus' on the pc to be tweaked for bclk changes.

It's interesting to see that your XMD kit is also a bit weak on tRP, but still a nice run. How much Vdimm was needed? What's the production date of your kit?

Pretty sure it was 1.96vdimm from KP Cooling, not sure about the production date, but still it is nice to see 2400 7-11-7 32m stable.

Raja, can you confirm this please? That M5E has more PCB layers than M5F (and M5G probably as well)?

Since I'm waiting for my MVF today, does anyone know what OROM the board has with the latest BIOS?

    Thanks in advance
