    OUYA = Revolution or Repeat?

    Good morning guys!

I've been gushing about this all day, and I thought I'd share with you all.
    http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/10/o...kstarter-goal/

This is what could be a very interesting console.
I realize that this is a computer forum, but I feel the gravity of it all sure gives it a bit of heft.

It will use brand new tablet guts, a fantastic looking controller, and a neat spin on how we consume games.

    Specs are:
    Tegra3 quad-core processor
    1GB RAM
    8GB of internal flash storage
HDMI connection to the TV, with support for up to 1080p HD
    WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
    Bluetooth LE 4.0
    USB 2.0 (one)
Wireless controller with standard controls (two analog sticks, d-pad, eight action buttons, a system button), a touchpad
    Android 4.0

I really hope this comes to fruition, especially considering how much money they have received.
I personally didn't back it, but I have yet to jump on the Kickstarter bandwagon, and I won't have the money for a bit.
    Looks really promising though!

Here is a different take on the whole thing (for those who might feel empty hope):

it is nice and all, but it will not succeed unless the new google Q dose. as of now it is a cheap google TV, it has no 1st party games, and dose not work with publishers, and most games are touch only. this makes it nearly imposable to do anything before it is outdated, and since there is not really any software it will not sell. the best thing that it could do is work with one live and hope that google tv and or the controller api catches on, otherwise it will end up as a $100 emulator the tv that will hopefully play netflix.

I'm all for it, then maybe someone will make a controller that you can clip your tablet or phone into and you can pretty much carry your "console" with you wherever you go..

All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.

I'm trying to start any sort of flame war, but I disagree.
I feel that the openness of the system, combined with its low price, fantastic specs, and the fact that it can already use any preexisting Android game gives it a huge head start.

Since they've received so much money above what they needed, I am under the impression that they are using it to create really good First party games.

I wonder if this can be made for even 100 bucks. Without the extreme volume pricing that bigger companies get and the likely royalty the company will have to pay because they don't have any IP crossover agreement and the overhead, advertising. This seems like something better picked up like Nvidia or google as they can use there connections to atleast get a bit more support on this wagon since they are already in the device. On their own, I can see the cost overwhelming the company.

Most console companies make their money off of software and without the connections and talent, it will be hard for this company to get real traction.

This console needs a killer title, such as what happened with wii sports or Halo or Mario or etc. Without that super title, it is going to be hard to get good word of mouth and get a big installed base.

I also think this cannot succeed. Specs like this will be very soon outdated (4x Cortex A15 at 2.0 Ghz + will be reality inside tablets in 2013 I think, GPUs can get much more powerful too). Without dedicated software and support for developers this will be discarded like any outdated phone or tablet. Hardware is not that important(for example Wii), but software and support behind it sure is. This is lacking on both fields (it just on-par with current tablets).

the specs are good but I can't see it competing head to head with any other console due to the lack of AAA titles on it. the power and potential are pretty good I think but because the big guys can't charge $60.00 for games on it means that we probably won't see much more glorified phone games on it. i can understand them wanting to make it open and accessible but i think the games that it sees are going to suffer because of it. cool concept though and i guess time will tell if it works well or not. I would ahev liked to see 2GB of RAM though. it would give devs way more options.

GPU aren't advancing that fast I was kind of disappointed that many phones use same GPU as my 1 year old Vibrant (Galaxy S). Not too disappointed that my old phone could play highend games except Tegra optimize ones. Anyway it's still 99 USD not 200 or 250.

this reminds me completely of the zodiac, with no 1st party royalties and no support from the large studios it will not get many games and any software sales do not give the company money. you cannot make a large profit on hardware alone to keep OS support and design a replacement. it dose look like a cool device but i dont think it will make it.

the vibrant should have the powerVR graphics, this is tegra. i think that the tegra3 is slower though as it has the same graphics as the tegra2 and that is slower than the samsung cpu with powervr graphcis.

not really, it is a tegra3 and the device should have hardware acceleration. the tegra2 dose fine at 720p so i would expect this to do well. it will do nothing of the quality of the pc or a current console in 3d though.

I think he's talking more in the realms of imput lag and such, since I'm not sure how well android will fair as a dedicated gaming platform. I think this is destined to fail if for no other reason than it is simply not powerful enough. Tegra 3 is not overly fast even in comparison to S4, and it will be outclassed performance wise by next years tablets and smartphones. With the psp vita you have the same graphical performance as the ipad 3 with 6x less pixels to drive and 2 more cpu cores, as well as dedicated gaming os, even though it costs a lot more.

using a ps3 controller over bluetooth with my g2x (it has a tegra2) dose not have a noticeable input lag.
