    Intel Confidential CPU Development CF64BJF010 350-0919 305-0980A @ eBay

Can anyone explain what this is?!

Is it a dev CPU in a kind of holder with debugging pins? I'm afraid I can't read the date.

Whatever it is, on the backside there's the older Intel logo, used before 2006. The substrate in the center is ceramic type of material, not used by Intel for many years (since the Pentium Pro?).

I don't know what it was, but if I had it I'd have sealed it in acrylic and used it as a drink coaster

Why? The only similarity I see between that and a C2D is they both contain silicon, various precious metals, and some plastics. Oh... and they process 1's and 0's.

Here are a couple early engineering samples of the core 2 duo.

    <wild guess mode on>

It looks like an adapter/probe accepting an unpacked silicon die in the middle, probably for some kind of debugging or binning?

The date looks to me like says 86 on the end, which can correlate this greyish-purple substrate they have put what seems to be small independent silicon chips on.

Definitely looks like some kind of debugging device like others have already mentioned however that does not look like a CPU, even at the time those silicon chips would be too small to house a complete design, unless it was a very old one which was shrunk. This leads me to believe that either is this some multi-core core test, or probably each of these small silicone chips is a variation of one design that Intel was testing.

    Very cool.

If it wasn't $1000, it would be a neat conversation piece.

    Looks like a Lilypad

I would suspect its a probe test card for testing/developing CPU cores.

Seeing that the article is located in Israel, which chip developed there fits in the timeframe?

when they are splayed out like that it is so you can tap into the data flow and monitor how it is working. and i am not sure why it dose it just reminds me of the core 2 duo.

It looks to be a power on test device for high volume production.
It may have rotated for auto loading of whatever they were testing.

I will poke at someone who knows to give us an answer.

Intel will be collecting its property

Do not pay for confidential material, it is Intel property, you would only waste your money.
