    Don't sleep late!

Slept in today and came out to find the house at 93F and the beast running at 69-71C and thats with a high speed 12" "TURBO" fan blowing in the side!
Watching the news and seeing most of the USA being baked and then those poor souls in Colorado.
You think on them and our problems take on a much different perspective.
Just hearing this woman in Colorado, new baby, 30 miles from the fires and her AC dies.
House is 95F inside and she can't open a window..

Now think about what you just said.
Can you imagine trying to get a AC repaired in a state thats burning out of control, electrcial lines down all over the place and the temps are in the 100F range.
I doubt you can even find a AC for sale in the whole state.

She should get out there and fix it herself!

    I'm totally kidding

That would be a bad situation. At that point I'd take any money I had or liquidate what I could to pay for gas to get to and a hotel to stay in another state that wasn't on fire. Leave it all behind. It can be replaced.

I know Dave, I was watching the news last night and can not believe the temps the Mid West, East Coast are seeing right now. We hit temps like that every summer usually but we are prepared for it with nice AC units in every home. Plus our humidity levels are not as high so its not that bad.

I picked a fine time for a New York trip next week.

I hate to say it but the crunchers are going down today so the house doesn't melt!

i had my room temp to hit 30c too, and it's only 20c outside :S (can't imagine what it'll be like when those 30c temps starts in Finland)
cpu did hit 57c and it's normally 52c max

should do a script that checks:
    - if room temp is +28c it'll drop cpu usage of crunchers to 50% and disallow GPU work for 2 hours
    - if it hits 30c it'll stop all work for 4 hours
    - if it goes as high as 35c it'll shutdown whole system

should prevent some catastrophic hardware failures

I like large posteriors and I cannot prevaricate

Even though I know that -40 is stupid cold (been in -5 with -30 windchill once, that wasn't fun), it almost sounds good compared to the heat right now!

Yeah, the coldest I've ever been in was -25F... idk what the windchill was. Had to go shovel the driveway in it... wasn't TOO bad, but I was only there for a week and I was more than happy to leave at the end of it...

I was on top of a parking deck trying to scrape off my car while I was in college that night. It was quite breezy which didn't help anything. The car still started! Barely. I turned the key, all the lights dimmed, and it cranked slowly, then it started. I let it idle while I finished scraping the car and 10 minutes later that temp gauge hadn't even budged! The windows didn't fog up when I got in the car - the fog would instantly freeze on the glass. Then I put it in drive and thought my transmission was frozen because it wouldn't go anywhere... The tires were frozen to the concrete! Had to give it some gas to rock the car and get wheels to break free.

So yeah, not sure which is worse, the high heat or the extreme cold.

    poor Colorado guys.

here it is so cold that my poor greyhound has to sleep ( inside my house) with some pieces of fabric over her to be able to cope with cold :S

EDIT: add to that our cheap electricity ( thanks to otis I do have a 920 which is running great at the time being).
