    2600K + MIVE no post

    I'm pretty sure the CPU is dead...my 57x 2600K.

System is made up of a MIVE + 2600K, 850w PSU which is good, and I've tried various ram between 4 sticks of PSC in different slots and 3 sticks of Hyper in different slots as well as 3 different GPUs. This isn't in a case either, it is on a motherboard box.

When I cold boot, it turns on then right off, then turns on again, but the post code usually hangs on 10. I'm getting other codes too (0A, 04 etc off the top of my head) every time I push the reset button, but nothing has booted yet.

This was a previously working setup, it stopped working on dry ice at conservative settings (1.6v @ -40c), now it seems my worst fears were realized.

Either I am out $380 (maybe I can persuade intel for RMA, but this CPU was bought from Hong Kong) or I am missing something...

In the worst case, if someone would be willing, I would pay postage to send the CPU to you (in the US) to try the CPU in your board...I don't have an extra board here to rule that out.

can you just find a small shop to test it for you for real cheap? i would do it for you at my shop np as i have many boards, but idk if you would want to send a nice chip to a random like me in san diego. i have some heat/ebay fb if youre interested.

Usually when cpu is dead post code will stay @ "00".......http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad-no-idea-why..

I might be able to get a local guy to test it for me...the guy that runs Overclockers.com about 30 miles from here that might do it for me.
But I'm just wondering if anyone has been in this scenario before and can tell me anything before I resort to anything like that.

I'm an AMD overclocker, so I'm a little lost on the intel side.

    @Dumo
It says 00 about 1/3 the time. Whenever it does, it is hard to get it to change off 00, but it usually says 10 initially 3/4 times.

Do these CPUs just die at random sometimes?...because I felt like 1.61v @ -40c was rather safe for benching, I wanted to think I had a condensation problem but I remember sealing socket area and pushing eraser into the space under the socket cover too, the CPU was sealed off.

Yep, never change from "00" and no other sign like "10" or "20".

Did you try the usual batt. out, boot with 1 ram etc.?

Yes, I tried both my sticks of Pi series 2133 in all four slots, tried 2 of my hyper sticks too and also my RipjawsX.
Battery has been out for 2 weeks, and I tried both bios (I have 14xx and 20xx loaded, can't remember exact) just in case with multiple useless CMOS reset just in case.

In 20 minutes I'll have a YouTube video showing the issue, I have a slow 1 Mbps upload speed and I'm uploading the uncompressed file from my cam so thats the reason for the wait.

00 = as dumo says CPU dead wont give you 10 or 20

for me aint CPU its motherboard related, u can just buy a cheap 40 dollar asrock and test CPU, but im sure aint CPU

Well, I am going to put the motherboard in the oven @ 70c (so plastic slots doesn't smoke/melt) to make sure it is all dry, but I think 2 weeks was enough to dry...will also take off mostfet heatsinks to check for damage.

I.M.O.G @ OCF lives about 25 minutes away, he said he would drop the CPU in his M5G for me if I stopped by.

I just took a 16MP still of the socket to inspect in photoshop, gonna draw lines across the rows of pins. There are no hairs/eraser or anything in it.

If the board is dead I'd probably be happy because the CPU is worth more...

yes thats a good method better than using heat pistol

i would do that trip for me aint CPU

    good luck !

    No bent pins.

Also from visual inspection, board is dry too. Not going in the oven.

In past experiences, board works the same both off and on.

It was on in the video, but it was on because I turned it on looking for answers, same result when off.

Alright, this happens the same way regardless of if there is ram in the slots at all or not...

    EDIT:
    And without GPU...same codes...

So hopefully it is the motherboard, but that doesn't mean it can't be the CPU I guess...RAM and GPU completely out of the equation, don't even need them >_<

    EDIT:
So I wonder what happens when I try to start it without a CPU... Oh. It does absolutely nothing.

Yeah the board won't switch on without a CPU installed. I've found the MIVE and MVG to be two of the most temperamental boards out there, even more full of crap than the DFI NF4 boards were. After a long (3 hours +) session sub zero they stop working for a while, they normally come back to life 7-10 days later. I don't know why, I can only think condensation under components. I'm 95 % sure your CPU is alive though.

Check the memory slots for bent pins. I have had this give me cpu codes and other weird codes when this happens. Just a suggestion

Thanks for the suggestions and help guys.

No bent pins in memory slots. Visual inspection of the board again, no corrosion on any SMDs etc, board looks clean.

Last owner had Armaflex insulation tape all over the lower half of the back of the board, will have to scrub with acetone to clean up before RMA.

Buying the cheapest board you can find for testing and either returning it after or reselling would be the simplest solution. The PSU could be the culprit too, so even if the new board doesn't solve the issue, try with another PSU just in case.

My board kicked the bucket 2 days ago and took 2 hdd's with it
I thought it was cpu cuz it was showing 00 code too. I hope I can return the cpu that I bought for troubleshooting.
To be honest I'd rather loose the cpu and the board than my data.
